Posted - 03/01/2005 : 14:36:41 We really want to get up an article database to turn Dayna loose on. However, our resident code master, the Fu man, is too busy to give this project the time it needs.
Is there anyone out there with a decent knowledge of Microsoft web server stuff that would be interested in helping out. We could probably set you up with the code for the song database as a starting point, though obviously the actual database itself will be quite different.
Hopefully the database would be full of cross-referenced goodness, searchable, and easy to navigate as well as to add an article. I'd also like to see this particular database become more community oriented with Dayna overseeing as editor rather than having her do all the typing/etc. The process would be that someone comes across an article, submits it through a form to the database, and then after Dayna approves it (or possibly deletes it) and/or edits it, a flag would be set to indicate it's approved and it would now be visible.
Of course as always, I'm open to ideas.
Please post here if you're interested in helping out FB.Net in this capacity. Thanks!

For whoever that *might* be interested, i can provide code for the SongDB, which would work as a pretty good template and give you a good head-start.
Any takers?

I'd like to give it a shot. Send me the code for the SongDB and I'll see if I can make heads or tails of it.
This is a quick look at what I was able to throw together yesterday. http://mysite.verizon.net/vze872r4/article/start.aspx I understand there is alot missing. I have drawn out a diragram on paper on how I think the SUBMIT page should look like. What you see here is not the final product.
Only the: > CLICK HERE TO SEARCH < > CLICK HERE TO SUBMIT< go to a working page, well besides the one actually linked to FB.net.

Posted - 04/23/2005 : 04:59:35 I aquired a copy of Microsoft VB.NET 2003. I've got a few things figured out already. I'm more of a database guy. I consider myself very good at Access. I just need assistance linking a db to the asp web page for when people submit articles.

Posted - 04/21/2005 : 20:49:33 Basically, it'd be the Song DB, except for articles. An article would contain the date it was published, the publication, web link if applicable, the article text itself, and anything relevant to it. Hopefully it would be indexed by what song/album it was related to so someone looking for reviews of, say, Teenager of the Year, or Frank talking Calistan could find what they're after. Presuming that such a thing is within the realm of possibility.
I don't know what else to say about it, but I suppose that's the general thrust of what we'd like to do. An archive of all articles we can get our hands on with some easy way of finding what you're looking for. Feel free to ask for clarifications or offer suggestions.
Much of this could be ported pretty much directly from the existing song db code, so it shouldn't be as bad a project as it sounds like.

Posted - 04/21/2005 : 11:25:47 Access is sorta similar to SQL...but you still need to be able to code ASP.

Posted - 04/19/2005 : 21:30:01 MS SQL is probably similar (though I've not worked with access). ASP is not likely to be though, but Dave should be the one doing the bulk of that I think. Dave?
