Posted - 01/31/2005 : 11:39:15 As you're probably aware, we're on the lookout for a new FTP server. I'm just curious if anyone out there has used a hosting company or has one to recommend for this purpose. We need anonymous FTP with download-only features as well as a master account to administer and add content, preferably a third account with upload access to one specific area. Anyone?
If anyone wants to help research this it would be much appreciated. Preferably not too much $/month.
Thanks.

Posted - 04/11/2005 : 10:44:12 Well, again I tried a service out which looked promising, and we were really close, except they refused to change the permissions for me so I could have a controlled anonymous account instead of strictly anonymous. Ag.

Posted - 03/01/2005 : 11:57:52 As those of you following the drama of the FTP know, we've been looking at new solutions for some time. I did find some web-based stuff that looked promising, but it turns out that part of our agreement to host files is that it not be web-based.
Our Friends' Club account has just paid for the server this year and has enough for next year as well, but if we spend the kind of money required to get an actual FTP server (with user access levels), we will probably cease to exist as a website next year, which obviously isn't what we want.
So I'm putting out a general request for anyone with server space (or with suggestions on some alternative) who could allow us the bandwidth for an FTP site to get in contact with me and see if we can work something out. Or post here if you'd prefer.
Otherwise, the FTP is likely dead for good, or at least until we're moved to our new and upgraded server.
