Posted - 11/26/2004 : 10:13:20 I've been thinking about it for a while, but now we're in wintertime (not exactly), the days are short and I have some free time.
I've made my way to work as a computer programmer, but for some weird coincidence, I'm working on a help desk, for two years now, which is a better job, no doubt about it.
But if some day I get fired, I'll have to go back to my last job, so I don't want to lose my skill on it.
After all that boring "This is my life" introduction, here I go:
I've been thinking about making a little FB game with The Man himself as the main character. My last idea is a 2D beat 'em up game with an old-fashioned double or triple parallax scroll. The enemies could be aliens or musical critics, I don't know. Probably I'll need some help with the characters graphics but I plan to steal the backgrounds from some 90's game so it'll be easier.
It should be plain Java (not that Shockwave shit), so I could practice with it.
What do you think about it?

Posted - 04/04/2005 : 03:25:43 Sorry, Dean. I totally forgot about this one. And yeah, I was talking seriously when I posted it.
I'll try to make a short shitty demo of Frank walking along the scenario so you'll can see what's in my mind.

Posted - 04/04/2005 : 02:07:51 I think the game would be cool in the format of the original NES Final Fantasy with your party members being different band members. Frank, Kim, Joey, Dave, Scott, Dave, Dave, Feldman, Rich. Frank being your standard warrior charecter, Feldman a mage, etc. They could go up against other indie rock acts or something.

Posted - 03/31/2005 : 06:39:15 Whore, if you're really serious about this still, then consolidate these ideas into what you are hoping to do with the game (i.e. lay out a more detailed, "here's the game I'm looking at designing" instead of a "what should be in this game") and start a new thread. There'll still be lots of room for ideas in whatever you choose and it'll give a little more direction to it.
If/when you start this thread (and feel free to put it in general chat) and get working on it, then I will give you a news item linking to your thread and sticky the thread itself. But only if you're really serious.

Posted - 03/31/2005 : 03:23:18 This needs to be moved into the General Frank Black chat I think.
Personaly - being a giant dweeb/nerd myself, I play a lot of video games. I think this would be a awesome project, especially if you had some sort of high-score board. I know it would be awesome to be able to brag about your "Frank Black: The Game" score.
I think Joey Santiago should definetly be in this game. He's just totaly video game material. |

You could be aided by your guide, Ken Goes. Throughout the game, a side quest could involve appeasing the 'Tom Waits' so at the end he helps you. You'd have to collect a certain amount of items (say, Bone Machines, or bones for said machine). Etc.
I thought it would be cool if you have to "rescue" the other band members to make it to a gig or something. Find Joey. Now find Joey's guitar. Oooh, there's a drumstick, Dave must be near...have a Kimmy-Snak for vigor or something.
then onto Catholix land where you have to outjam sucky bands or somethin'...

Posted - 12/01/2004 : 07:51:35 The men in black! Great idea. Is hard to find enemies for him, isn't it?
On the other side, he can't have a big range of enemies, because we must keep it under 10 MB of data, so it could finish looking like the "Teenage Mutant Turtles".

What if when you initially encounter the two-headed Deal Sister monster, she is a boss to be defeated. Once sundered, she becomes an ally and helps you in your quest?

Anyway, I'm doing it my way.
Thanks for your help. I'll keep you updated. Specially you, Rita, the scary monsters designer

Posted - 11/27/2004 : 04:06:27 As an adult I can deal with violence in a game, I know the difference between right and wrong. Some games, especially the most popular revolve around acts of wrong doing, but they are just fiction. I can't see too many children accessing this game to be, not while we still have Top of The Pops.
The world and art is good against evil. Where there's the hero there's the enemy. I'd rather strum him to death than kiss him.
sounds a fun game in theory whoreatthedoor, good luck. |

Posted - 11/26/2004 : 12:30:02 That sounds terribly difficult. But you have some nice ideas.
I have three stages in mind: "Los Angeles","Abstract Plain" and "Massif Central", because he said he wanted to live in.
I said a beat 'em up game because I'm dying to make the Parallax scroll thing and big-headed characters like the South Park ones, but if someone has a great idea about a RPG or a strategy game, I'm open to suggestions. No 3D though.
I forgot to say that this is a FB (or a FB.net) tribute project, I don't want to get credit for it. Everyboy who wants to be in will be welcomed. It needs a soundtrack too.
It would work better as an embedded applet or a standalone app?
I have an old demo hosted, if you want to check it out (www.moxito.jazztel.es) No timing routine, so it could work awfully on your computer.
It would be funny if The Man himself would want to play his own game, hmmm...
PS: What's an EE/CS?
