Recently, cruising and minding my business across Oregon, on my new favorite interstate, I-84, I saw a truckstop/piss-stop called "the farewell bend", is it the one?, huh?, yeah-really?, black-letter-dazin' it?, it was hil-ar-ious because I just happened to be listening to the album in question, and prior to hearing said track, I saw the farewell bend sign and thought "huh someone sings about this", and whadya know 2 tracks later Mr F***k B***k sings about it, oh wow it happened with the "vagabond motel" and 'trailer bride' tooin utah, oh and I never knew how freaking creepy eastern oregon is,

Heelarious? more like seenchroneous..yesterday i was driving
and listening to some old funk/r&B that i had recorded from vinyl
to minidisc -just got off the 90/94 heading NW on Milwaukee ave.
(Chicago, IL.)after the Augusta/Milwaukee exit and i notice a woman
walking down the street: she trips on something un-seen on the sidewalk and skips a beat looking down etc.
At that very moment the music i was listening to skips and blurts
and i realize it was a skip on the vinyl that i had to intervene
with in order for the song to continue -back 3 years or so ago
when it was recorded to disc.
Synchronous intervention? divine soundtrack random chance?
-a higher power with a sense of humor?
or a seemingly meaningless hint of higher power activity which
makes no sense until the plot thickens.
you decide.

Thanks for finding that info, that makes a lot more sense now. When I saw the signs for farewell bend I was thinking about the actually road, anticipating some horrible hairpin turn or something (seems a little morbid in retrospect:)
Whats Hells Canyon like? Fantastic name. Yeah, I read the -rolling sagebrush grasslands- were also called the Sagebrush Desert and I liked that too. Def wild west, and a little WOAh! west .. That was the weirdest (in a good way) area I saw the whole cross-the-country trip. Endless spaces of huge desert hills like you said. And unfortunately my camera couldn't capture the bigness of it.. but I felt tiny. Texas has got nothing on E. Oregon.

I visited this area (Malheur County & Hells Canyon) in 1998, and although I clearly prefer the coast, I must say I really enjoyed that stay. Dry, endless spaces, unmarked roads, no tourists - THIS is what I call the Wild West...
Anyway, I found this small article about the Farewell Bend:
Star Route Huntington, Oregon - 25 miles northwest of Ontario, off I-84 - Oregon Trail history
More than 150 years ago, pioneers used Farewell Bend as a rest stop to prepare for the final leg of the Oregon Trail. After following the Snake River for 320 miles, they left the river at this point to avoid the forbidding Hells Canyon area -- hence, "Farewell Bend." If those pioneers were travelling through today, they still would recognize the rolling sagebrush-grasslands, harboring deer, pronghorn, partridge, chukar, and, during spring and summer, a profusion of high-desert wildflowers.
