Hello all,
I saw all your profound elaborations on the seven horrors plus just one more and was sincerely impressed and excited. I was wondering if anybody had any takes on the connection between "Blast Off" and the writing of Samuel Beckett, beyond the fact that Beckett's name is mentioned in the song. I'd like to hear any ideas you come up with--please write!

Cheers,
I'm not shakin in my boots

I wonder if that comment about his wife being reincarnated from Cleopatra has anything to do with "Letter To Memphis."

good luck with your essay - i was once also quite interested in beckett. a friend of mine wrote also an essay on him, 30 pages or more - but that was 10 years ago and i haven't seen him since...

Thanks to those who have responded to my query. two reelers, where did you read that Frank Black said that about traveling to the sun with solar sails? I'd like to read the entirety of that interview. frank_black_francis, thanks also for your information--this is helpful to me. I'm planning to write an essay comparing the works of Beckett to the lyrics, exploring the references, etc. Anymore info or ideas from anybody would be excellent.

Cheers,

Ive said it before.....there are many nods to 'Waiting For Godot'.....his beckett rant may be a reference to the character Lucky's rant....as well, both Beckett and his mentor, James Joyce where both Irish 'Exiles' who lived in France....

according to the man himself, it refers to "sam beckett mentioning to travel to the sun with solar sails" - or something like that
