Posted - 06/05/2004 : 16:38:14 Ok, I've been trying to come up with a tracklist (still) for a mix CD to initiate a few nay-saying friends into the world of solo FB. I'm still having trouble narrowing it down. Instead of having people post their suggestions, I made this handy-dandy little poll where you can vote for your very favorite FB songs. After about two or so weeks, I'll take the top 20, reverse the order and call it something along the lines of "The Top 20 Reasons That Frank Black Rocks Your F'ing Face Off" or something equally clever. ANny help/votes would be greatly appreciated. Cast them here: http://drumz.best.vwh.net/mp/artists/frank/
Thanks. This could either be super-interesting... or just so-so.

Posted - 06/23/2004 : 08:31:54 The Snake is NOT a shitty song. Its a must-repeat for me almost every time through. It has that already-ending riff sound (you know, it like, instantly resolves) and the lyrics are some of his best recently, if you listen to the implications of the chinese astrology on his relationship to whomever he's talking about (wife). And I just laa-aughed when you begged and you pleaded!!
Sorry, but it is no where NEAR shitty.

Posted - 06/22/2004 : 14:08:51 I detect bias towards the last album. Let's face it - "The Snake" is a shitty song, and deserves to be at the bottom. And "Coastline" at #8?? Please! It's fine, but basically a wisp of a song. Both "Horrible Day" and "When Will Happiness Find Me Again?" are vastly superior.
"Speedy Marie" "Superabound" and "Robert Onion" are better than "Los Angeles." And I love both "You're Such a Wire" and "Creature Crawling", both in the bottom ten. Get your heads out of your asses people! |

Posted - 06/15/2004 : 07:24:50 is this supposed to be a best-of list overall, or a best-of list in terms of the ROCKIN songs that will grab a neophyte by the balls and won't let go? Frank has more than one mood, y'know?

Posted - 06/14/2004 : 09:23:57 the SONG itself, Cult of Ray is one of Frank best, I think. It in the tradition of other greats like Freedom Rock, Robert Onion, and Massif Central as being just a sold balls-out rock song, but of course with FB's subtle genius coloring it throughout. The rest of COR is good and definitely brings me back to the summer of 96 when I was desperate for a follow up to TOTY, and spun COR fanatically. I still like and and I find that 'you ain't me' and other obscure tracks from it pop into my head more often than many of his other albums.

Posted - 06/11/2004 : 15:39:13 Dammit, I've just noticed that Massif Centrale is number 1 ! Well, I don't think it's realistic. This song is not bad but Ice Cream is right, FB did much better. How come that Freedom rock is only number 16, Abstract plain n°22, Parry the wind high, low n°62, Sir Rockaby n°66 ..... ?

Yes Someone, I understand what you mean. There are very inventive things on COR. This LP is everything except boring and worthless.

Posted - 06/09/2004 : 13:15:39 And I'm still not understanding why FB fans so much dislike COR ? That's really a big mystery to me ... even the instrumentals are great (from my point of view).

Posted - 06/09/2004 : 12:12:57 I'm pretty surprised about the results thusfar as well. I figured that "Manitoba" would have made a much stronger showing. And, c'mon... what about FB&TC's??? Is that record chopped liver folks?

Posted - 06/09/2004 : 11:27:10 Just voted. San Antonio TX #1 just boggles my mind. |
Cult_Of_Frank |
Posted - 06/09/2004 : 11:05:47 It is pretty good, but I would probably remove San Antonio and Blast Off...
Maybe replaced with So. Bay and End of Miles? It has gotten a lot better since more people started voting though.

Posted - 06/09/2004 : 08:21:41 I'm not saying I don't like San Antonio, but as a top 10 or even top 20 song?! Much less number one!!! FB has many far superior tracks. It's not even my favourite on Devil's Workshop.

Posted - 06/09/2004 : 08:03:59 Cool poll, i rated all tunes, FB solo and SMYT i thought would have been higher. Tossed last, come on!! Tossed rocks.
Funny how people differ on fave songs, was expecting Los Angeles to be No.1 but no it was TX which i love as well but my number one would have to be FU MANCHU or is it EVERYTHING IS NEW, damn you Marc, a riot will surely ensue!! |
