I just got back from Nashville where I was mastering my album which sounds amazing and will be released next month. The mastering engineer was Jim DeMain at Yes Master Studios. When I was copying my files onto his hard drive I saw a folder titled "Frank Black" and I asked "what is that Frank Black folder?" He said he was mastering Frank's new album. "Honeycomb?" I asked. He said "Yes" and looked at me curiously, wondering how I knew. I couldn't believe my luck! Out of all the mastering studios in the world, I end up there!

Anyhow, he told me that the new album is not strictly live to 2-track. It was recorded to 24 track and I think he said a lot of the tracks on the album were taken from the live mixes, but a handful were overdubbed and then mixed by this guy Earl who actually assisted some of my recording sessions a few years ago. I'm going to try and get in touch with Earl to get more inside scoops. Jim also said that he thought Frank was going to add some more songs to it. I didn't ask if I could hear it because I didn't want to make him uncomfortable before my session even started. Anyhow, I thought you'd all be interested.

Well it seems that during the time I was in Nashville, Jon Tiven posted and scooped me with the 24-track info.

Oh well... Way to rain on my parade, Jon! ;)
