I worked late tonight. I came home at 11pm. Sometimes that's what it takes to get over upsetting times. Someone once said that Frank Black and the Catholics will last as long as the pyramids of Egypt. But even monuments crumble to dust. And what a monument this was! And what a genius of an architect. But now it seems, the lure of money has gotten the better of him and he wants once more to gaze at he buildings of his adolescence. And what a pity to be at the peak of your creative powers and then sell out.
I shall miss the dusty off-the road flavour of the Catholics, the stage just big enough to fit an amp on it, the small town atmosphere and the audience size in an era when Pixies songs were a no-no. I felt close to her - this wonderful creation of FB&tC. I knew her and I felt she knew me. It was something personal and because of this I won't forgive FB. He can't do what he wants, absolutely no Sir. He can't get someone attached and then screw him. I'll sue him! FB&tC belong to me and there's no room for the Pixies!
It seems about every five years Mr Black needs a brusque change in his sound/band and however it will work out with the Pixes reunion and for however long, I doubt it very much the Catholics will be the same again.
It was like a dream, nice while it lasted. And now I shed a tear over your grave, sweetheart. RIP the Catholics. You fools, look what you've done. |

I have tickets for the Pixies in Tampa. I think I'll bring in a "I love The Catholics" sign and get up near the stage. It can't be over, I've planned vacations around their tours. My wife thought Scott looks cool so she learned to play the drums. They're like part of my family.

I have to admit, seeing the Pixies live in Davis, CA only further cemented my deep love for the Catholics. Don't get me wrong, I love both bands to death--I would go as far as to say that they are my favorite bands ever. But...the Catholics' tightness and unspoken chemistry onstage is something so very rare and so very precious. I don't think Frank is ditching his current band for the Pixies...I think he'll return to the Catholics once the whole cash-in reunion is over. But, can you blame the guy for going with the flow and giving so many people (myself included) a chance to experience what they missed the first time around? I sure can't.

The Tolerant was right. Frank is bigger than both bands. He is a wonderful "work in progress". I do admit, I am worried that the Catholics might not return, but I think the Pixies thing is just a phase. We'll just have to wait 'n see. Frank Black will not stop. "He would not quit, he would not quit" as Frank sang in "Two Reelers". I think Frank is just a "victim of circumstance"... |

I dont think its "Death to the Catholics" just yet - hopefully the Pixies tour will just swell the Catholics existing fan base as Pixies fans take a renewed interest in all things FB

I only got to see Frank with the Catholics once, and it was one of the best live shows I've ever seen. I just find it funny that he's calling himself Frank Black while he plays with the Pixies. I guess if that's how he feels on the inside. I have a feeling the reunion was meant to make money for himself, to give the band it's propers, and to help him find a younger audience for his solo work, which he'll inevitably return to in a year or so. |

I'm emotionally attached too. Life without another live Cathloics show isn't possible. We just have to be patient I guess.

hehe...was dissapointed to hear about a fall tour with the pixies to go with the summer music-fest dates...dont blame anyone involved, just a selfish wish to go ahead and get that over with.

chill my friend. frank black is bigger than the catholics and the pixies.
i think he's the key to both bands so i can only look forward to what the man will come up with next in the future with anticipation.
if its the end of the catholics i'll mourn while listening in awe to what they did produce like i did the pixies.
frank black will never stop.
