Posted - 05/15/2004 : 06:15:07 Walking through Cardiff city centre last night to the pub, I saw something that made me & dance about with happiness! In the window of my favourite shop, Lush, they have quirky quotes or slogans, which they change about once a month. In the window, it said:
'Aint no sin to take care of your skin & dance around in your bones' I know, simple things please simple minds, but to see such a recognision of Frank Black & The Catholics from a large chain store, in fact, my favourite store at that, i thought was really cool!
A friend of mine, Brett, works there- I might see if I can nab the display when they change it! Take care xCx

Posted - 06/02/2004 : 18:50:46 quote: Lush sounds like some shop that sells soaps and prefumey crap
Someone mentioned Lush a few weeks ago, and I said, "What's that, a store for drunk people?" No one found it particularly funny, yet I'm repeating it here on the forum. What's WRONG with me?

Posted - 06/02/2004 : 16:47:57 another damper...it's not really a tom waits song. with a little research i found that "tain't no sin" was written in 1929 (music walter donaldson, lyrics edgar leslie) and has been recorded dozens, if not hundreds, of times. personally i am only familiar with tom waits's version but i doubt the display is a tip of the hat to him, or frank black, or anyone specifically. |

Weird White, I'm sorry to put a damper on things, but your friend Brett already promised the display to me.
REeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally? well, i'll just get the one from one of the other branches then
& yes, Lush is a shop selling fresh hand-made bath stuffs, which explains the poetic licensing on the words.

Posted - 05/18/2004 : 11:49:45 Lush sounds like some shop that sells soaps and prefumey crap, so i assume the were just using poetic license in changing the lyric. I hope I didn't do any dampering. ;)

Posted - 05/15/2004 : 07:46:02 Well yeah, i know its called bone machine, i have the album. but does anyone know why? I assumed it was Tom Waits paying a compliment to FB and him repaying it with the Black Rider...but thats just me assuming. |

Posted - 05/15/2004 : 06:31:14 Sorry to put a bit of a damper on this but it is a Tom Waits song, so it could be an applaud to Tom Waits, or it could be for Frank. But if it was for Frank im sure they would have chose one of his songs. But you know, like i say i dont want to put a damper on things. I always thought it was interesting that Tom Waits released an album called Bone Machine in 1993 and in the liner notes someone called Dave Phillips plays guitar. No idea if its the same one. But, does anyone know the story if there is one about Tom Waits naming an album after a Pixies song? |
