Posted - 05/02/2004 : 16:37:29 I know Frank regularly claims that "almost all the answers are found in the lyrics" but in BACK TO ROME [which is my favourite FB song btw] WHY exactly are we going "back to rome"? I don't really get it, in the context of the song .. Does FB mean going BTR is experiencing a more simplistic/uncomplicated Love, like having "a happy stone-age dream"??

But is it possible FB is also cryptically saying: I think it's time that we go back to Roam. as in starting again, meet someone new, etc.?

But as the Roman Empire ultimately failed, so does the love/relationship he sings about in the song. He's making reference to Rome, and in doing so is comparing the fall of an empire with the failure of a love/relationship.
this has always been my take.......so i could be wrong. |
