I know that Manitoba (as well as some Pixies stuff) is in the soundtrack for the film the United States of Leland, but I remember reading that it was a different version of the song. Anyone who has seen the film confirm/deny this?

Thanks to my dear friend Xavier, I was able to watch the movie, which I liked a lot!
But I felt the same, maybe the director is a fan...
And Manitoba was very different, and very good!

It's a great movie. And it's a different Manitoba version than the SMYT one. I've only seen that scene once, but I remember that it's played more quickly.

Anyone knows the relationship between Frank and the movie? Four songs sounds quite suspicious to me.

i finally saw this flick last night. i thought it was pretty good. yes, i'm pretty sure the version of manitoba in the movie is different than the one from smyt's.

does anyone know the background to the song manitoba? the lyrics really seem to fit the theme of the movie but because it's called manitoba i would reason that it's based on a different story. i was reading the lyrics again and it's a very interesting song. for some reason i thought i read or heard frank say (maybe when he played the song at the winnipeg show) that the song was inspired by someone he know's from thompson, manitoba.

its an American Beauty-ish type film w/ Kevin Spacey in it

that's about as much as I know...wasn't aware that Manitoba was on the soundtrack though. Or the Pixies songs. That's pretty cool.

I don't know about Manitoba, but I just wanted to add that Hang Wire, Gigantic and River Euphrates are also on the soundtrack.
