So does anyone here know what will happen to the Catholics? I, for one, would like to see them sooner rather than later....ideally, Frank would be doing this reunion to make enough to fund a prolonged Catholics existence. Has there been any info on his intentions? Will the 'Frank Black' Forum be renamed as a result?
.....remember being excited about "Show Me Your Tears"?
.....its getting kinda sad to be posting on this forum with that picture (aptly faded) in the upper left-hand corner of the screen reminding me what I'd really like to be seeing.
.....what will become of the Catholics....I wonder

You're not wrong there Erebus.

The end of a line up doesn't necessarily mean he's had enough with that band. I think and what I've heard Frank evolves a group into the sound he's into at the time. He probably has the players in mind he thinks can do his art justice. The Catholics are perfect for the past, now he's got Honeycomb. How is this gonna be reproduced live? I don't know, but the only man who does is the only man I would want to know. I leave my listening pleasure and full faith with the man and he has never failed me. Never.

Rich was much involved in Tanya Donelly's work this year, both in studio and concert. In August in SF Rich referred to the Catholics as "on hiatus", so I think he too doesn't know how things will play out.

As FBC notes above, it appears most folks who work with Frank remain part of the clan, reappearing on future work. The name of the band may change but I highly doubt we've seen the last of our beloved Catholics.

I agree too.

I still regard their work as more FBs' than as the catholics, even though they're a band in their own right. It's just they've got one awesome front man and songwiter who I've followed for years with musicians coming and going along the way. I'm sure the Cs' won't be FBs' last line up as an artist.
ooh the future and its many wonders, I want it now.

Do you think Frank had the catholics sound in his head before he formed the band?

His song writing spinned and turned so much I wonder if he wrote these songs in mind for a band as good as the Cs. Or he had so much new material he needed a band to play out the genius that was in his head.

He seems to like the idea of the guitarist who plays on many peoples records. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts working with a lot of different people. Which would be pretty nice. catholics fans would get their share. he'd still tool around with the pixies so those fans would be happy. and he'd collaborate with a bunch of tenessee hilbillys too. i'll listen to it all.

Yeah, I guess I'm pretty much the same way. I liked the Catholics as Frank's back-up band, but I really don't know much about them individually.

I feel pretty bad about this, and know i'll lose some major FB points from my fan rating, but I just don't seem bothered about what the others are up to. I should be, shouldn't I?
Maybe, no, it's because I'm only focused on Frank Black himself. He is the Catholics like he was the Pixies.

What are the Catholics doing in 2004? Rich has a ton of projects, I'm sure, and Scott has a son....

So I think it all worked out for the best. Imho, the Catholics needed time off from the Franck.

Haha, I don't know why, but I imagine you shaking a little bell when saying that.

that's true. i don't think he'd completely abandon the Catholics after all the work that's gone into forming this group. I mean, one of the reasons he left the Pixies is because he wanted to write his own material. he didn't want to share the spot light with Kim. and one of the reasons he's more willing to rejoin the group (aside from the money) is because he's had 12 to do his own thing. he's got it out of his system.

I don't think he'd leave the Catholics cause history would repeat it's self and he'd get angry again and The Pixies will fall apart again. Now he has options. He could collaborate with Kim and do rocking alternative songs. and then go with the Catholics and do material all his own. same with Kim, she could go off and do things with The Breeders. So I think they'll all be a lot happier.

I think I've said it before that they could become the equivalent of Crazy Horse and Neil Young. i.e the occasional album and tour whilst FB carries on with other projects (solo, Pixies, whatever). I somehow doubt that he will neatly revert to the Catholics and nothing else once the Pixies reunion tour ends. Who knows, the Pixies may release 5 new albums!?
