Honestly I've never heard of Buddy Miller, but I found this interesting info on his website:

Miller News
2004

Session news - besides B/J music there has been much going on over the last several months. Buddy will be playing on a recording with the great Mavis Staples. Julie is singing on an upcoming Jude Johnstone record. Buddy worked with Sheryl Crow on a track. Julie and Buddy will be on the next Bill Mallonee record. Buddy sang on the upcoming Miranda Lambert CD produced by Frank Liddell. Buddy and Julie are signing on the beautiful new Patty Griffin CD "impossible dream". Buddy will be recording for Frank Black's next record, Jon Tiven is producing at Dan Penn's studio.

EDIT: I know a little more now (thanks Buddy). Jon Tiven is producing, David Hood is on bass, Anton Fig on drums, Steve Cropper on guitar. Apparently the recording sessions will start next week at Dan Penn's studio.

Btw, Jon Tiven is one of the producers of 'Brace Yourself - A Tribute to Otis Blackwell', which includes 2 excellent contributions by Frank (Breathless and Handyman). He also plays guitar on Breathless. Steve Cropper plays the first solo.

Doesn't Frank play on Jon Tiven's Blue Guru? I've ever heard it though.

It's so good to hear Charles is still putting out some new music with all this Pixies hoo-haa going on. It is rather excellent of you, Frnck.

I know it's early days (he's recording like, now, isn't he?), but does anyone know anything more about it?

It's getting colder....

Did Jon Tiven not also produce the Arthur Alexander tribute album featuring Frank?

It has to be said, the sound on those 4 songs was pretty awful! Hopefully it was just a one-off, though... looking forward to this!

words cannot describe how little i care about this pixies reunion crap, but i know it'll help a very deserving act make some deserved money so im not gonna bust a nut over their parade...

with that out of the way...thank god there's gonna be a bit of frank in the works rather than letting the active production side of his career go stale while he does the money thing. its stuff like the reunion that keeps his vision alive i feel. he dont have to have the major label contract or the pop single...he can go to nashville and make the album he wants to make. why the catholics arent involved, god, who knows...but he's got an interesting crew for whatever he's doing with this album. sweet...

I wonder if this will be live to 2-track or not...

Broken Face is correct about Frank's previous work with Jon Tiven.

Mr. Tiven also has a very long and interesting history in the music business. Our good friends at google can surely assist you if you wanna know more. I remember my question to Frank in the old "King Holds Court" thread was about Jon Tiven, but I don't believe The King ever answered.

Anton Fig is the Letterman show band's drummer. But over the decades he's also done a bunch of live & session work with lots of classic rock guys.

My dad has all the buddie and jullie miller records
great! Now I have to listen to all those!

am I reading this wrong or does it look like that the next line in that article could also be read as: Frank Blacks new album will be produced by Jon Tiven and recorded at Dan Penn's Studio

I've seen Buddy and Julie Miller open for Steve Earle in Glasgow - very good they were too.
