While Stan Ridgway did the sleeve photography for Show Me Your Tears, I have every reason to believe the Cat photographed for the cover was probably a found object or simply chosen because it looked good .. Although it is interesting to note the meaning behind a cat with a raised left-paw [invites money] as opposed to a cat with a raised right-paw [invites luck] or so I'm told anyway...

guess what, i went to an oriental restraunt the other night and they had one of those cats.
Yeah, they had a ton of them in Chinatown when me and my girlfriend visited Chicago a couple weeks back. I almost bought one, but decided I didn't want to spend $15 on a good one, nor did I want to spend $6 on a cheap one.

But I can't remember which paw is raised right now. Oh, I see up in the corner of this page, he's popping in and out. His right paw. Then his left. Hmmm.
Hah, I guess I just did a flip horizontal to repeat the cat when I animated the graphic, it's his left paw.

Posted - 03/28/2004 : 01:45:23 I remember that Cat in the control room of the Hollywod studio they had set up in for most of last year. Not sure who put it on the steel, but Stan is pretty quick with his digital camera and everybody dug it.

I don't no much about Japanese Mi Ke fortune cats, except to leave a coin for the kitty by the door of the restaurants. |
