Posted - 03/08/2004 : 11:35:20 Ever since the whole reunion tour thing and me finding this web-site I've been spinning Pixies and FB cd's non-stop. The greatest re-discovery was Massif Centrale and St. Francis Dam Disaster. I used to skip Massif because of the falsetto bit (yeah, stupid me). I cannot stop listening to that song. Genius! I've always loved St. Francis but hearing it again after a few months I was goose-fleshy all over.
Any FB songs you guys have re-discovered? |

Posted - 03/09/2004 : 19:21:00 I loaded a bunch of Frank and Pixies songs into my MP3 player, just grabbed them and dumped them in. I never gave "Devil's Workshop" all the time it probably deserved since I was so wrapped up in BLD at the time, but I was really digging "Modern Age" this morning while running. Thats a great track. |

Posted - 03/09/2004 : 11:09:35 That Mother Popcorn song is the shiz-nat, Dave! I could not believe that voice and THAT funk were coming from the man himself. It's like he channeled James Brown in all his glory, heavenly shiny suit and cape and all.

Posted - 03/09/2004 : 09:53:07 Oops... sorry. I also thought you were talking about 666 because of the comment about the Catholics all hitting a chord at once. Hearing the two songs back in my head, I could sooner identify what you were referring to in 666 than in TMTWTL. Then again, I haven't actually heard the self-titled album in months, so I could be thinking of a song from Oddballs for all I know. Ack. |

My favorite lately is the FB&TC's version of THE MAN WHO WAS TOO LOUD. I love the part towards the end when they all hit the note (BAM!) together - I am not sure what that's called. I need 'Musical Terms for Dummies'.
You mean Six Sixty Six, right? I like the ending too. That last chord is whacky-jacks.
No, I meant the THE MAN WHO WAS TOO LOUD. I guess the confusion is b/c I said the FB&TC's version...I meant the version from the FB&TC's self titled CD, versus the version on THE MAN WHO WAS TOO DRUNK which is the one he did with Teenage Fanclub. Sorry for the confusion.

Posted - 03/09/2004 : 08:31:53 "Cold Heart of Stone" I've been appreciating a lot more lately...especially thinking back on when I saw that live, and how it was so great.

Posted - 03/09/2004 : 05:55:49 Massif and St. Francis were both creepers for me, but they eventually gave me chills on separate occassions. So Hard to Make Things Out was instantly awesome to my ears...just the way all those parts meld together, not to mention that is some of the rocking-est Frank out there. Jane was another creeper...I actually never appreciated the full coolness of that song until I saw it live, and then even more so when I played it on acoustic guitar. The intro ---> verse part (actually the whole bit before the chorus of "Jaaaa-eee-aaane") is chill central.
That's what music is all about my friends. That chill that shoots down your spine and makes your body tingle, if only for a brief moment. That's when you know that you're on to something good.

Posted - 03/08/2004 : 11:46:51 my biggest re-discoveries were 'so hard to make things out' and 'jane the queen of love'. i used to just gloss over them. hearing acoustic version of jane changed my life. |
