Posted - 03/09/2010 : 09:25:53 Alright, since people on here are getting old and having kids and stuff (the last one being beckett_trance), I thought I'd share the FB "lullabies" compilation that I did for when my kids were born - with an updated tracklist. Here it is:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/wxetor
Tracklist goes like this: 1) Song of the Shrimp (HC) 2) Atlantis (HC bonus) 3) Sir Rockabye (TOTY) 4) Duke of Earl (Hello Recording Club) 5) Dog Sleep (FMRM) 6) Don't Get Me Wrong (Xmass) 7) SSMVGD (HC version) 8) The Flower Song (Golem studio version) 9) Rabbits (NSE) 10) True Blue (BLD) 11) Golden Shore (FMRM) 12) Sleep (SSMVGD) 13) Dark End of the Street (HC) 14) I Will Run After You (BLD version) 15) Don't Cry That Way (FMRM) 16) Dog In The Sand (DITS)
I'm not actually sure all the lyrics are suitable for kids, but mine don't understand english :) Also, I have to let you know that I put it on tonight while dining and my daughter made a huge scene and I sent her to bed before dessert. So, I'm not exactly sure the compilation works the way it was intended...

Posted - 04/11/2010 : 19:27:43 My girls love "She Took All the Money" from "Bluefinger." Recently I bought Grand Duchy "Petit Fours" and they've already been singing along to a lot of the songs from that album (the "whoo-hoo" part from "Break the Angels" and "that big volcano is about to blow" from "Volcano.") I love the fact that one day, my kids are going to look back and remember Black Francis/Frank Black/Pixies/Grand Duchy the same way that I remember stuff my own parents listened to.

Posted - 03/13/2010 : 20:44:58 i also created a fb/pixies mix for our first child 5 years ago. we still listen to it today. i think my fave is sir rockaby. the kids also like the live version of the wave of mutilation (uk surf)/ in heaven combo (not the crazy screaming version)....kim deal has a very nice soothing voice...

Yeah, quite amazing indeed. Perfect closer for this mix. Plus the production is stellar. LIVE TO 2-TRACK!

Yeah, same here. Though apparently it's been played live around 1993 but I don't have any boot of it.

Nice mix, too. Half of the tracks listed have found there way onto various compilations I've sent to my little one in the past.

Heh. And a gentle nudge from 'Snake Oil', just to make sure they'd reached the Land of Dreams.
I forgot how stunning the song 'Dog In The Sand' is. |

Don't wait til the baby's born. Play some music to him while in the womb, it will soothe him to hear the songs later. Tell the mother that for better results you have to start right now ;)

My first mix had Violet, Coastline, The Real El Rey and My Life Is In Storage. But then I decided Coastline had some swearing, nobody likes El Rey except me (I think it's the best song from FMRM), and My Life is a bit too sad. And Violet... well, it disappeared.
Lizards... It's mellow indeed but I thought it was a bit too weird for baby ears.

Posted - 03/09/2010 : 10:26:30 I think I might give this a try. I don't have any kids, I mean for me when I'm trying to get to sleep. Honeycomb has worked for me in the past, but this tracklist looks great! Is Duke of Earl from the Hello Recording Club EP? That's the only version I've ever heard, I think.

Seriously, it's not a best of (as you can notice by the number of songs coming from HC and FMRM).
