anybody have the nitty gritty on these? i specifically want to know who's playing what on Bartholomew and Modern Age. the lead on the former is tasty and there seems to be at least three guitars going on the latter. lil' help!

heh. i plug my laptop into an amp and it only plays what's on the right. Der Golem is great for this.

I must try it with Devil's Workshop.

The lead on Bartholomew is exceedingly badass, but I'm not sure. It doesn't sound like Workman or Santiago, so I'm guessing either Tepper or Philips. Modern Age is actually my least fav cut on that record and I almost never listen to it, but the lead almost has to be Santiago. The pedal steel is Philips of course.

This isn't definitive, just my own ear.

Edit: I just listened to Bartholomew again, and since the steel is playing throughout, it can't be Philips (live to 2-track and all..) Like I said, it doesn't sound like Workman to my ears (but it very well could be), and there's no way in hell it's Santiago, so I'm laying money on Tepper. He's done a lot of great work with Beefheart in the past, and it does kind of sound like that.
