hi

this is now officially my fave frank record
i think because it came out after the pixies and before teenager that it gets overlooked.

But it just wonderful batch of songs, full of melody and lyrics that no other artist can touch

It has this wonderful production that i have never heard on any other record. It is very clear , and the acoustic nature of the songs is captured at a very hard and loud volume.

Every song (almost) makes me think of the beach, and thats always a
good thing. Its a great driving on a sunny day album.

My fav track is places named after numbers. What a beautiful haunting song. Still dont know what it means, but it does remind of a girl that i love.

what are your experiences with this album?

I looked on the discopedia and it just so happens that this is one album that I have not had the pleasure of hearing all the way through. I have heard a few songs off of it though and every one of the songs I have heard have been great. I am sure I would like the entire album. Two Spaces is one of my favorites.

It's not you I don't like

I was just listening to that album today, actually. It's the second Frank album I ever heard, with TotY being the first. I think I liked it more upon my first listen, but TotY is still my overall favorite.

Isn't it actually the orange album, though? :P

blackholes / galaxies etc - all usually given names such as

X-Ray Source Name Mass of Companion Mass of Black Hole
Cygnus X-1 24 - 42 11 - 21
V404 Cygni ~ 0.6 10 - 15
GS 2000+25 ~ 0.7 6 - 14
H 1705 - 250 0.3 - 0.6 6.4 - 6.9
GRO J1655 - 40 2.34 7.02
A 0620 - 00 0.2 - 0.7 5 - 10
GS 1124 - T68 0.5 - 0.8 4.2 - 6.5
GRO J042+32 ~ 0.3 6 - 14
4U 1543 - 47 ~ 2.5 2.7 - 7.5

I read somewhere that black holes are FB's fave type of star, could have dreamed it.

This album is a classic. Beautifully recorded / unusual themes / styles vary / guitar in strange tunings all amount to record that sopunds unique in my book.

Love it

The Beach Boys cover is definately memorable.

For a time I was always struck by how, production-wise, it was as if FB albums were made in reverse. Pistolero could have been the debut (very lo-fi), FB&TC (still lo-fi but crisper and more powerful sounding), COR (live to two track abandoned!), TOTY (very dynamaic full sound) and finally the yellow album (very slick and polished, almost over-produced in parts).

Anyway, I agree, it was an amazing debut but is maybe over-looked because that polished sound isn't to everyones liking.
