Posted - 10/08/2007 : 11:53:57 So are these all the songs that technically, are credited to/performed by Black Francis rather than Frank Black? I'm making a playlist and want to include all of it. So there's the obvious like Bluefinger, but what about the Christmass songs credited to Black Francis etc.? This is what I have;
BF.net demos:
1. Alabaster 2. Skip This Part 3. Rabbit Hole 4. Dead Man's Curve
Bluefinger:
5. Captain Pasty 6. Threshold Apprehension 7. Test Pilot Blues 8. Lolita 9. Tight Black Rubber 10. Angels Come To Comfort You 11. Your Mouth Into Mine 12. Discotheque 36 13. You Can't Break A Heart And Have It 14. She Took All The Money 15. Bluefinger
16. Polly's Into Me 17. Virginia Reel
Christmass songs credited to BF:
18. She's My Way 19. Demon Girl 20. Radio Lizards 21. Don't Get Me Wrong 22. The Water
Threshold Apprehension single:
23. Get Away Oil
It's a bit weird too because Dead Man's Curve on the Christmass CD is credited to Frank Black, with the same song on the DVD credited to Black Francis. It's things like this which confuse me. There's also obviously the demo disc of FrankBlackFrancis aswell but I'm looking more at solo stuff. Have I missed anything? |

Posted - 10/10/2007 : 14:36:35 So I just heard the Frank Black on XFM podcast and he specifically said that Don't Get Me Wrong is a Black Francis song, so I guess it's the same with all the Christmass ones credited to BF. |

More and more, I think the name reversal (the most recent one, not the one after the Pixies broke up) is a stupid publicity stunt. Thankfully, the music is still every bit as great as it has been since day 1.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.
it may have been a publicity stunt, but its good that hes getting noticed for it, here are some lines from a recent interview "My ego would not be satisfied to just make music in a vacuum," he said.
"I felt vindicated because really that's what's gotten me noticed again," Thompson said.
i just think good for him, he deserves the attention

So I started typing "Tomi-go" into Google, and "Tomi-Kro" was a predicted entry... "Tomikro" in Greek means "the little place" apparently... could this be a play on words? And the very first link for Tomi-kro mentioned restaurants in Toronto... with another called "Lolita's Lust" or something. A bit too coincidental. |

Check out the second post, by fbc. 'Make It Stop' and 'Skip This Part' are the same song, since they're not the official titles, just what they have been named by fans.

Posted - 10/08/2007 : 13:30:07 I always thought the Mother Popcorn clip on there was part of the session. That's what confused me. I can't get it to work regardless though, oh well. |

I think Get Away Oil is only available on the 7" single, and you can't go wrong with the iTunes version of History Song.

Could well be, but it was discreetly introduced through Christmass and the The Black Francis Detective Agency website.
Anyway, have you "smelled" Herman Brood's coke? I think that would be enough to inspire the Black Francis in anyone. |

More weirdness: He's covered The Good, The Bad And The Queen's "History Song" with the boys who played the European dates. The ticket says "Frank Black", but Bluefinger songs were played. I'd say it's Black Francis because of the time of year.
Last one. What are the name of the singers in Fort Wayne, because I'm not sure?
I thought so about the History Song cover. Is the iTunes EP version the candidate for best recording?
and also I swear I saw Black Francis mentioned as the Grand Duchy persona somewhere... I think it was somewhere official but it was probably just a post on here.
Also, which songs were performed in the elevator with Violet? I will try and check now but I can never find that cover that was mentioned on the website. Hmm. |

Posted - 10/08/2007 : 13:15:36 Ah, also, was Get Away Oil ever released for digital download? The fact it's on vinyl and I don't have a working player is really bugging me now. I know there is a CD promo with both Threshold and Get Away Oil but just as I think "screw it, I will pay more than i initially wanted to" it disappears from online marketplaces completely. |

Posted - 10/08/2007 : 12:50:44 Nice list!
I think of Dead Man's Curve as a Frank Black song, so too The Water, but if they're credited to Black Francis then throw them into the mix. It's always good to hear them.
