Hey, just in case any of you don't know, Frank Black is going to be on Radio 1 tonight with Colin Murray from 10pm to midnight. Should be funz, and if you don't live in the UK you will be able to listen to it on the website at www.bbc.co.uk/radio1 it'll be on there somewhere.

Funz.

Thanks for the MP3... it's a good interview, though still not close to the WOXY one. I know Colin Murray is definitely a huge Pixies but probably not had much time for the solo stuff by the sound of his questions...

Like most here I cringe when interviewers go on about the Pixies... fbc said it best "strip away the much loved Pixies to it's barest of bones and what's left? Frank Black."

I can't say this about many bands, maybe only two or three, but my favourite Frank Black album is always 'the next one'!

My mind is like the ocean...

Props to Miss Thang for what Frank said: she keeps him on the edge instead of getting complacent. That was interesting-an antithesis of Yoko perhaps.

I'd rather be anywhere or doing anything

further to my last post about theatrical production- just rewatched the pixies, and in the extras they're chatting about making a film... could fb's radio comment be an allusion to that... that would be mental!

oh man, this is a CLASSIC interview. Thank you Holiday Son for providing the convenient MP3. This needs to be burned to CD and placed among "the collection".

I'm glad to hear that the Pixies are through.

Also Frank just sold me that Good, the Bad and the Queen album. I never would've given it any thought if not for Frank's endorsement. Will get it next time I can hit the record store.

Not sure if i'm 'glad' but think it sure overshadows his many later accomplishments. was kinda shouting at the radio interviewer "get over the fucking pixies!!!!!" a good interview with charles on good form, but the pixie-centric line of questioning seemed like a bit of a wasted opportunity....

Would love to see the 'theatrical' production FB touched upon near the end of the show if it comes to fruition! That has me very excited!

you never got to see McLusky I take it

Also, this interview is the closest we've gotten to hearing a solo acoustic "Here Comes Your Man", right?
Nick Posted - 07/31/2007 : 11:08:29
I agree. The Good the Bad & the Queen is one of my favourite albums from this year. Seeing them live was a real rush. Paul Simonon is one of the cooler guys on the planet. He stands on stage in his little pork-pie hat and gets a serious groove on. It's the only time I've seen the bass player become the live focus of a band.

Frank did a really good version of the History Song - I was impressed.

the listen again thing should be there for some time yet, but that guy posting the mp3 certainly was helpfulz.

I think it's just Kim where his clout is probably lacking... she's too busy writing crappy Breeders songs isn't she?

He said the same thing in an interview with the Guardian last year I think.

Also, thanks to the kind person who posted the MP3, the BBC site was down so I was not able to listen to the repeat broadcast.

fun interview. Enough with the Pixies already, however he did manage to squeeze some new stories from Frank so that works for me.

I support the cloning of Frank...

WOW...thanks you guys for the thread and the link to the show. That was just great stuff. And my first Bluefinger exposure. I really loved the Herman Brood song at the end, especially the guitar during the "angel party".

What a performance. It's great to hear acoustic versions of new stuff, and Frank playing guitar. I love it when Frank's in a chatty mood, commenting on songs as he's playing them.

Nice, thanks for the treat!!! I just started listening... great way to start the weekend :)

ahhh and congrats to Frank for the new baby

Well, to be honest, I'm not terribly surprised Murray didn't sound like he knew a lot about Franks Solo stuff, I don't think many people do, but he certainly seemed like he was into the pixies and what not... I dunno, Murray is a bit annoying sometimes.

Beyond the music, he's so goddam charming in these interviews. He's done several in the last year that are some of my very favorite FB "moments," as they're called in that other thread. I love his quirkiness when he's in a chatty mood. And he's horny as hell these days, it seems. Violet's got him worked into a tizzy. The snake has been charmed!

There's a perfect explanation for the shit that I've been in. As soon as I find out, I'll let you know.

That was fucking great!
Angels Come to Comfort You blew me away. He's really into it people!

Has anyone nabbed this and made an mp3? I can't get the show to play. And I'm dying to hear "Angels," like Ziggy is talking about.

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.
Ziggy Posted - 07/27/2007 : 03:52:02
It's a nice playful interview.

Murray sounds like he's just read an handful of press interviews, like, five minutes before.

Playing all over Britain for the new record?

That version of 'Angels Come to Comfort You' beats the Bluefinger version anyday.

No probs, even if you miss the live broadcast, the BBC has a listen again thing, so you should still be able to hear it afterwards :)
