a post in another thread made me curious as to what frank / pixies posters are out there and who's got some cool ones....
i used to be quite into having music posters plastered all over my wall. unfortunately they're all now wrapped up and stored in the cupboard, but i did have some pretty cool ones.

my favourite of all was this big assed (140cm x 100cm) doolittle one that one of my sisters ex boyfriends gave me...
here a piccy of it. i haven't seen another of these for sale anywhere, but i'm sure there must be quite a number hanging round, but it took pride of place on my wall for a good many years.

i also had the 2nd series of 4ad poster sets and that had a orange album poster in there and a trompe le monde one too. but they were only smallish posters, but very neat.

and also a surfer rosa one...it was rather big too, and they're still for sale in a number of record stores in my home town.
i also have 2 surfer rosa t-shirts. one with the cover in pink (!) and the other in blue.
used to like being a bit weird and wear those to high school mufti days...thought i'd get told to take it off by the teachers but they never did......

and you?

all i can say, thank god for polio! brian

All right, so you're like 2 degrees from endorsing my wedding present. Cool!

Any more poster pictures out there? Come on people, let's see 'em!

Easiest way is to reply to one of the posts with an image in it, you'll see the tag markup in the post. Just cut and paste and substitute your image URL.

It's the [ img ] tag without spaces basically.

Nice, Jeff. John Doe is one of the few guys who's as cool as Frank Black. I became aware of him when he opened here for Lucinda Williams. I got the sense that he doesn't normally open for anybody, but he seemed ok with it and came back later to join Lu for a couple songs. Not just cool but classy too. Love the poster.

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.
Jefrey Posted - 06/02/2007 : 00:23:46
Here's me cool ones:

#1 Best poster ever
#2 Signed (hard to see, but it's there)
#3 Just like the colors and fractal, and it's from the old days (1989).
#4 Just showing off that John Doe gave us a signed poster as a wedding present. Hee hee!

Wow that is cool, never seen a lot of this stuff before. Makes me feel inadequate with my regular old Death To The Pixies poster.

That reminds me, I have a little postcard of that in a frame that I had on my wall, it's around somewhere!

I've got a Planet of Sound poster (Eyeball model in a clear bowl picture, same eyeball model in the Trompe Le Monde artwork) with tour dates from 1991 that a friend grabbed for me free from a yard sale and I have a Cult Of Ray poster that's pretty rulin'. COR is just a giant version of the cover art.

Can I see a picture of the astronaut-suit one? Please.

Yah, the Davis poster cost me about $350 to frame. Ouch. But it was worth it. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.

I have a couple cool posters. I have mounted to foamcore a 3' x 4' pre-release European subway poster of TOTY hanging on my wall over my bed. It's cool, because the text is in a font different from the album font. Says "coming May 1994...on vinyl, tapes and compact discs" or something to that effect, and is a giant image of the album cover of crowned Frank. I have posted about it in the past, but I need to take a pic and put it here for all to see...I love it. I also have a pre-release poster for FB self-titled "eponymous debut"...it is normal 24" x 36" poster which I have also industrial laminated and mounted onto foamcore (thats what I do at work)...this poster shows frank wearing a denim work suit(?) and sunglasses, and he is buttoning the top button of his collar. And a rather common PIXIES SURFER ROSA booby poster (24" x 36" mounted). Somewhere in my closet I have a promotional flat for TROMPE LE MONDE, and on another wall I have a framed and signed pre-release poster for DITS which I won from W.A.R.? coming in third place for an in-store cd promotional display years ago. I likes my posters!

cool to know there's more out there!
i think mine might be beyond posterboarding.
it's certainly seen better days.
spose it could be salvagable...maybe i'll look into it...

i've got a few more big posters, which you're right you don't see round often these days.
very nice mogwai and beth orton ones, and going back to the early/mid 90's, a big smashing pumpkins 'today' poster (it's the one in the piccy beneath the pixies one) and a cure one and a violent femmes one....don't know how i ended up with these last 3 as not fan of sp or cure....vf i can kinda understand...

I have that bigass Doolittle one too. I had it mounted on posterboard so it wouldn't get ruined (you should too - that's a keeper!). I used to have a couple other sweet bigass posters like that, but they got torn up in college.

I had a The The "Infected" promo, and a Love "n" Rockets "Motorcycle" one that was really sweet.

For years I've been looking for the bigass David Bowie poster with just him in his "Blue Jean" makeup, but I can't find it anywhere. It's too bad you can;t really get those bigass posters anymore.

For Pixies, I had the goldleaf "Metro" show poster with the crab on it, but it got ruined in college too. Stupid beer. The best I have is now is the UC Davis reunion tour poster with the giant skull with the monkey in his eye socket and a gramophone for a brain. Coolest poster ever.

I have the poster that came free with the Doolittle chord book, it's the picture below except length-ways, fold-out magazione style. I used to have it on my wall, it's in the wardrobe somewhere now!

Nice. I had the black "Death to the Pixies" (regular poster size), and a 4AD one with orange album cover but with a picture of FB in shades in the middle and "WATCH OUT! HERE COME'S FRANK BLACK!" text on the bottom. I used to revel in it's awesomeness. I'll see if I can find a pic.
