He produced the Polonsky record, but all the recordings were scrapped and rerecorded by Polonsky in his bedroom or some shit. Why rerecorded? Dunno....maybe it sounded like Honeycomb...oooo snap!

I've been wondering the same thing myself. I'd love to have that guy behind the wheel of one of my albums.

anyone have any recordings from the tour he did with frank?
Apesy Posted - 04/11/2007 : 01:54:19
Hmmm...

All Music states the following:

<< Black was impressed enough to not only get Polonsky a record deal, but to produce his debut. The Black touch is apparent throughout the album, especially on tracks like "In My Mind" and "I Don't Know What to Dream at Night," both of which boast loud guitars, sharp pop hooks, and cute lyrics. >>

I agree. "The Power of Sound" is more mature, but it lacks spontaneity. There are some killers on it, though. Do you have the "There's Something Wrong With You" EP? If you dig HMNIJ, you should dig this one too.

As for Swell, I can't find any info, sorry, but I clearly remember reading something about Frank producing an album of them. That was ten years ago or so, not sure but I think Frank had just released COR.

his latest record, the power of sound, isn't that great. It sounds huge, but I prefer the quirky bedroom songs.

"Reeves [Gabrels, guitarist of Tin Machine] and I became friends and he passed my tapes on to Frank Black. Frank got his manager to start managing me, I managed to get FB to produce my demo, and the manager managed to get me a record deal with American Recordings."

Nope, not produced by Frank. But it's a fantastic record.

The first Johnny Polonsky album 'Hi My name is Johny' is great, not sure if it's produced by Frank though. He's thanked on the record that's for sure.

Which Swell album did Frank produce?
