Since we now know what the "Best of" set list looks like I thought it would be kind of fun and messageboardie (sure to illicit conversation) to do this exercise. The reason why I though of it is because of some of my choices for this list coincide with "best of" choices.

I know this is unfair and many of you will hate this idea because you love everything he has ever put out. Call it impossible, call it sacrilegious, call it stupid, but that being said I wanna do it.

Rules: Every studio release must have at least 2 songs represented. If there is an album you find flawless you can put only 1 from it but you can only have two "flawless" albums on your list. You can put them chronoligically or in order of least pleasurable (or both), you decide.

Here goes mine.... BTW this was very very hard to do....

(chronologically)

Parry The Wind High, Low
Brackish Boy
Whatever Happened To Pong? (TOTY is my flawless album #1)
The Marsist
The Adventure And The Resolution
Six-Sixty-Six (FB&C is my flawless album #2)
Bad Harmony
You're Such A Wire
Hermaphroditos
Llano Del Rio (Why didn't I say there could be 3 flawless albums? this is a good song!)
The Black Rider
Black Rider
Bartholomew
His Kingly Cave
The Snake
Goodbye Lorraine (Why didn't I say there could be 4 flawless albums? This is a good song!)

(least pleasurable 1st list)
Parry The Wind High, Low
The Black Rider
Black Rider
Bartholomew
Hermaphroditos
The Marsist
Bad Harmony
His Kingly Cave
The Adventure And The Resolution
The Snake
Whatever Happened To Pong?
Brackish Boy
You're Such A Wire
Six-Sixty-Six
Llano Del Rio
Goodbye Lorraine

Just because I put a song on this album doesn't even mean I think it's a bad song. In fact this collection would be pretty cool IMO. However I think most of the songs are at least inferior to the rest of the songs during this time period and a few of them are actually flawed IMO. I will gladly respond to specific questions as to why some of them were included.

Yeah, Silver is beautiful, but it gets a relatively surprizing amount of 'meh' off folks!

c'mon... it's pretty, the way they sing this:

There are dangers
There are sorrows

Ok I listened to Silver all the way through. Still just don't quite get it. I totally did not pay attention to the part about it having to be between 93-03. I will pay closer attention.

btw I must say many of the songs listed, I love.

Okay, there's a gun to my head and a knife to my throat. That's the only reason I'm participating in this thread. But I refuse to call the following songs the "worst" of Frank Black. They are merely the "least best," and even then it's only my humble opinion.

Tossed
Two Spaces

Fiddle Riddle
Bad Wicked World

Punk Rock City
The Adventure and the Resolution

Suffering
Do You Feel Bad About It?

Tiny Heart
I Switched You

Constant Sorrow Man
Angst

Blast Off
Llano Del Rio

True Blue
The Black Rider (#2)

Bartholomew
Heloise

This Old Heartache
The Snake

Violet
Another Velvet Nightmare

Dirty Old Town
My Terrible Ways

Test Pilot Blues
She Took All The Money

And the above list of songs is still better than most ordinary artist's greatest hits.

I find this really interesting. There are certain songs mentioned again and again that I regularly champion from the rooftops. Yet there regarded by others as the worst track. You gotta laugh, beckett.

I tried to make my list a few days ago but by the time I got to Pistolero I had three flawless records so I gave up rather than break rules, and I'm most definate my list would have included someone's favourite or two.

I'm going to try again soon. I see it as some kind of therapy. Facing my demons and all that.

I would listen to some of these "worst" lists. I think some of them are pretty good mixes!

I refuse to participate in this vileness.

The only song I can't seem to listen to all the way through and I just don't get is Silver on Doolittle. I find it interesting this song does not appear on any of the lists. I looked for it. Maybe I am misunderstanding this thread...

Since I have not heard everything he has done, I can't compile a list.

I don't get Silver either.

It's not on anyone's list 'cause it's 93-03, and Doolittle was in 89, right?

I can't really make a list, it's too hard and I still don't have COR or Pistolero, but a few songs I would probably include would be:

Hang on to Your Ego
1826
Lone Child
Solid Gold
Llano Del Rio

Here we go; Oddballs, Snake Oil & One More Road For The Hit tracks in parentheses.

Chronologically, I think:

Brackish Boy
Fu Manchu
Fazer Eyes
I Could Stay Here Forever
Punk Rock City
Dance War
(Hate Me - much prefer the solo version from The Beat)
(You Never Heard About Me)
King And Queen Of Siam
Six-Sixty-Six (the KB version, on the other hand...)
Tiny Heart
85 Weeks
Llano Del Rio (only for the Llano, Llano line)
Stupid Me (as close to flawless as it gets)
(Angst)
(Constant Sorrow Man)
(Sleep)
Whispering Weeds
The Black Rider 2
Are You Headed My Way? - otherwise flawless album #1
Jaina Blues - otherwise flawless album #2
(Take What You Want)

bonus:
I Burn Today (great lyrics but I find the tune grating)
Lone Child
Dirty Old Town (overfamiliar)
Golden Shore
Demon Girl
All Around The World

Absolutely, this is something that has really surprised me since signing up here, everyone digs totally different aspects of Franks music.

**I will try to compile a list later tonight and edit it into this post, i don't have the correct frame of mind for it right now**

When I came up with the idea I thought it was going to be way easier than it was. Having gone through the process gave me a greater appreciation for some albums I formerly had a somewhat lower opinion of than I really should have. I actually changed the rules half way through doing my list (at 1st I had stated you could only have 1 flawless album) because I simply couldn't put 2 songs from TOTY and FB&C, it would be like naming my favorite children.

I'm really shocked at some of the songs that are on some of your lists. All my absolute favorites are represented on one list or another.

After this thread runs for a little while I'll compile our lists! (it's going to be a long one)

Half of those are covers, so I guess you're doing alright in that regard. But, the 3 that aren't are great songs.

However, you didn't put Big Red, which puts you WAY ahead of some people on this forum.
