Just after reading a post from azagnos and decided to start this thread after agreeing with him on the point regarding the possibility of Kim Deal's reluctance to do a new Pixies record. He made the point that maybe she is reluctant because she doesn't want to tarnish their legacy with a sub standard record or for it to sound fakey.
I think this is a valid point, the songs on FM/RM and the new ones from Christmass are good and all but they aren't quite as strong as his other stuff. I have a few i like on FMRM but i think show me your tears was far superior.

If you listen to the podcast with selkie bride instrumental with the catholics and rob laufer, it is truly exceptional, no clean production just a great song played live with a beautiful rawness to it.

I would love to have heard time of my ruin, barleycorn, pittsburgh, and some others done in this way but there you go, FB enjoyed doing those records and that's great. As long as he is still putting out music i'm happy. Maybe its just i prefer the more raw catholics style stuff but in terms of song stucture these new ones are very different.
Those songs frpm FMRM and xmas seem quite quickly knocked off. I like demon girl and gyaneshwar from Christmass but they got old quickly, i enjoyed the production but they were quite repetitive.
Radio lizards was the most exciting as it was a totally new technique for him and the melody and lyrics were top class.
I was excited when M Mangino came on saying that she's my way could be his best song, but honestly it's not even close to one of Frank's best. This is strage for me to say as there is not one FB album i would say i do not like.
Every one of them has amazing songs and are quite individual. I just feel fastman raiderman and christmass were done too quickly. This obviously all subjective and i'm sure there will be the cursory well that;s just your taste comments.

But i honestly think that his best work e.g FB ST, TOTY, DITS, SMYT and all the pixies records are full of songs he really crafted.
Hopefully the work with EDF will bring back the layered beautiful tracks. Maybe all of this is unrelated to Kim's record reluctance, but i feel she has probably heard those 2 records and is concerned that they do not come near FB at his best> Any thoughts?

FMRM and Christmass have enough new songs for a great Pixies album. So the production on FMRM isn't great (I don't really have a problem with it, but it seems to be consensual around these parts). The Pixies would better it. If the songs are there, I really believe those four guys would do another great record.

That's why I really don't understand the hurry to release another Pixies album. Maybe it's the fans that want it so bad, I don't really know what's going on within the band, especially between Frank and Kim. But whatever it is, I cannot believe it wouldn't be solved if Frank would just sit on the whole "New Pixies songs" for a couple of years, just writing songs, not rushing anything, and then choosing the best thirteen songs out of the lot, or at least, the songs that would better suit the band.

Even now, Frank seems to be readying two, three new albums (I'm starting to lose the plot). With a little patiente and selective ear, you could probably find more than enough on these new releases for an amazing new Pixies album. Has the problem ever really been a matter of quality material from Frank?

If PIXIES Bam Thwok & Ain't That Pretty At All were to be their only new recordings since 1991 ~ that would tarnish their legacy more than anything else.

A new album would be a positive move imo. I hope we're lucky enough to get one.

(( There's a perfect explanation for the shit that I've been in. Soon as I find out I'll let you know... ))
