Hi all!
I am on my first try here so excuse me if this topic has already been overanalyzed.
Anyway, is it possible to pinpoint some (maybe all?) of the writers/books that have been used as references by FB on his songs/albums?

I remember, at one point during one of his online chats, he mentioned that he was reading it and enjoying it. I only remember since I had also read it.
I suggest any of Kurlansky's books to people on this site (Basque History / History of Salt / Jewish History / and more recently, although I have yet to read it, the History of the Half Shell OYSTERS). This guy is so extremely well researched and spins an amazing narrative that links to general history. Awesome, Awesome stuff. |

I've read those books and they're great. Not good, great. And I love "Big Red" but never made that connection...gonna have to go listen!

Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars books. I haven't read any of them, but Frank himself said that "Big Red" was based on them.
And as far as Biblical references, you certainly can't stop at the Gospels! What about the Song of Solomon in "I've Been Tired," Judges in "Gouge Away," and so on?
