Posted - 11/30/2006 : 11:41:09 Okay. While I am a big FB fan, I don't have all of his solo albums, and thus have not heard everything. I've noticed a song on a car ad on TV. It has a fuzzed-out bass line, and Frank Black singing at the end of the ad. Anyone know which song/album the excerpt is from?? |

Posted - 12/04/2006 : 12:02:57 can someone tape the ad and share? I am curious to see what it's about. Thanks. |

Posted - 12/04/2006 : 01:36:15 I think Frank Black is much less of a sell out in allowing a song in a commercial then in reuniting the Pixies. And even then, who can blame him? the fame, the name, the glory AND the money.

Posted - 12/03/2006 : 22:16:09 frank would only be a sellout if he at some point said "I'll never put my music in a car commercial" but he's pretty honest about the buisness side of his music (ie Pixies reunion)
i don't think artists get that much for songs in commercials anyway. i mean, a good chunk of change, but not like zillions.
i think it's funny how a lot of actors are in commercials in Japan for stupid ass products, but not in the US because they'll look like sell-outs. it's like, "i'm willing to sell out, as long as no one knows about it". they get paid fucking millions for those too. literally

Also, I hope nobody is ready to yell sellout; the guy has a growing family to care for, after all. Hell, I think calling somebody a sellout for lending their song to a commercial, regardless of whether they have a family or not, is kind of lame. As long as it's not for, like, a Hummer or something destructive and wasteful like that, what's the big deal? Especially if you're not a well-known artist and could probably do with a little exposure.
Good points, in general, Apesy, though you're arguing against a non-existent criticism. Nobody has called him a sellout for this. And I doubt anyone will.
(Cue the criticisms ... )

I wonder if it's a regional thing?

Posted - 12/01/2006 : 20:38:10 That would be "Everytime I go Around Here" off of Frank Black.
I have yet to see that. I did hear Where Is My Mind on Criminal Minds last night.

What country and what car? I think this would be new news (if it's really him).
I can't for the life of me remember what car at the moment (I think it's a Dodge maybe??). American though. I've seen the ad a couple of times now and it's driving me nuts. |
