Everyone seems to have noticed that Frank has lost a lot of weight on this tour, and I was wondering if anyone (maybe even Frnk or Violet) could share how it's being done. I know I could stand to take off a good 30lb or so, and if it's good enough for The Man, it's good enough for me.

I wonder if Frank still loves fish and chips, and ceasar salad (wth real anchovies).

The man who could drink a six pack a night AND lose weight is my new hero. If I play tennis three times a week I lose weight and can eat comfortably. I think it's the side to side and stop start motions in tennis that work really well for burning calories. I would recommend anyone playing tennis to look for clay courts if possible. Easier on the joints. And when running if possible find a high school track or something similar. Cement is HARSH on the knees.

It's crack. It's great. It gets you really high.

I've lost an extreme amount of weight over the years and my diet is tolerable. Vodka & Fruit Juice, water, chicken, turkey, and salad. You can eat a sandwich for lunch once a day. I went from 285 to 177 (Pounds for you metric folks) in 13 months! And the best part is no excercise!!

Coffee is an excellent laxitive, as well as being high in anti-oxidants. As long as you don't have high stress or high blood pressure, it's actually pretty good for you (assuming you're not drinking Folgers or some crap like that - grind your own baby!)

First you have to quit sugar, fried food and alcohol.Sometimes I eat that (i love burger king) but it´s not the main dish in my lunch. With the alcohol, drinks like whisky, rum or vodka have a lot of calories, at the weekend I changed it for one beer or two cups of wine (in Chile we have excellent wines). Excercises are very important, I run 30 minutes 3 times a week.

I´ve keep my weight in order for 1 year and trust me that i feel wonderfull, with more energy.

Congratulation Frank for lose weight, it´s not easy.

I kind of want to cut this out and show it to some people I know. This pretty much says everything I agree with.

fasting though, if done on a limited basis can be good for you. it gets rid of all those toxins have built up in your body. you just don't want to be doing it once a week because that would really mess up your metabolism.

FB said on the Minnesota Public Radio interview earlier this month that he's been on a fast. Not sure it's a completely strict one, though (or what that would entail). He mentioned drinking coffee in the morning. The interviewer asked him a couple questions about it, but he didn't divulge much. If this is how he's losing weight, though, I can't imagine it's a very healthy way to do it. I was going to try it myself, but decided it wasn't exactly the smartest way to go about living.

Oh yeah, that's true. Drinking lots of water will definitely help you lose weight faster. That might be one of the most important things. It also helps you feel full.

But "caveman" had a life expectancy of about 32 years, so I don't know if that's the way I'd go...

I like this post, posted to another board I read, from a doctor.

This is an excerpt from a longer rant about obesity in America:
--------------------

You need to lose weight. Fine. Here's how you do it.

1) Stop eating.
2) More specifically, stop eating processed fatty crap. Stop eating fast food. Stop eating at Denny's. Stop deluding yourself into thinking that a salad from a fast food chain actually has less fat than their flagship burgers.
3) Don't rely on drugs. Stimulants? Yeah, we all know about Ephedra. Not only do they kill you, but you regain the weight. Redux or Meridia? Just a combination of Prozac-like and amphetamine-like meds. Redux was pulled from the market--it caused pulmonary hypertension. Meridia patients are still rigorously screened, but never lose more than a token amout of weight. Even worse, they regain it.
4) Surgery? Look at the mortality rates and expense. Getting cut open and having your guts re-wired is risky. I'd rather stand under a tall tree during a lightning storm. The odds of dying would be less.
5) Exercise. Walking won't cut it. You need to do cardio and weights,
daily.
6) KNOW WHAT YOU EAT. I can't stress this enough. Having a basic understanding of what you put into your body directly impacts your body's function, shape, and overall health. Learn how to cook for yourself. Take control of your diet. Buy a fucking chef's knife and learn how to prep vegetables. Read labels.
7) Realize that it will take time to lose the weight and get healthy. Realize that it is a lifetime commitment. Realize that once you reach your target weight that the battle doesn't end.

8) And finally, the fad-diet du jour. I call it DP's Caveman Diet. It's quite simple. Think like a caveman.

What did the caveman do all day? He ran. He hunted. He was physically active.

What did the caveman eat? It sure as hell wasn't bread and Pepsi. When he woke up, he rarely had breakfast. If he did, it was a few paltry nuts, some meat, and fruits. Lunch and dinner were never a scheduled event. But when it did take place, the same rules applied. His food was simple and unprocessed be it grains, meats, fruits, or vegetables. Portions were kept to a respectable size. Most importanly, he drank water. And take this message home with you today. You need water to cleave fat molecules into the glucose energy that your body needs.

Frank freaked me out this past Sunday. I wasn't expecting to see him sooo, small. I'm happy and proud of him, but it was a wtf moment.

A good tip to losing weight is STOP EATING SO MUCH!! I lost 15 pounds that way.

I drink two and a half pints of freshly extracted vegetable juice every day, and have been doing so for nearly eleven months. Of course, I eat other things as well. Otherwise I'd be constipated due to the complete absence of fiber.

Basically, it'll all about the calories. Expend more calories than you take in, and you lose weight. You can eat donuts all day long and still lose weight as long as you exercise enough to burn the calories off.

Fancy diets are only if you're too lazy or unwilling to exercise. It's much more fun to live life and eat relatively what you want. All you have to do is run a few miles or anything that gets your heart rate up 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes (I believe 28 minutes at elevated heart rate is the point where you start increasing your aerobic capacity and burning calories even after you stop). It's true - 3 miles is all it takes to get your metabolism up for several hours; you'll be burning calories for hours afterward. The suck part is getting to the point where goign for 30 minutes+ is comfortable and fun, but it really only takes about a month.

When I was running 15+ miles/week, I could still drink a 6 pack of beer (well, light beer) a night, and still lose weight!

A healthy diet without trans fats is obviously better for you in the long run, but if all you want to do is lose weight, just excercise 30+ minutes at least 3 times per week, and you won't even have to worry that much about the diet.

All you gotta do is run. Switch cookies to carrots and beer to water...if you eat meat, concentrate on fish. And RUN. If you can, after a month, get yourself up to 3 miles a day for 5 days a week, and stay on a good diet, you will lose pounds galore.
