I hate to call you virii, but I have a favour to ask of our podcast listeners...

There are a few reasons Brian & I do these podcasts every two weeks, aside from masochism. Keeping people abreast of FB stuff and playing tracks that fans may not have heard is one of the two main reasons.

The other is to introduce those interested in FB's career but who haven't heard much, and get them more interested. While it's great that from our site there are quite a few listeners (~4000), it is hard to accomplish our second goal without going out there and telling people about the podcast. We've registered on all sorts of podcast link sites and pretty much anywhere you can find podcasts, you can find Frank Black. But that's not enough to have us really show up when people are casually browsing.

So, my favour. Below I have a list of sites. If you could even hit one or two of them and vote for us, or rank us, or even write a review or two, I think it would help get the podcast showing up more. I'm not asking for you to rank us high or only write good reviews at all, just bring some discussion of the podcasts out to the rest of the world - any activity counts when they're ranking us. Plus, we've recently fallen to third place when you search for frank black podcasts on iTunes.

Where to go:
iTunes
Yahoo
Podfeed.net (registration req'd)
Podcast Alley

Thanks.

Well, K, FB is pretty hands off as far as the podcast goes. It's a fan thing even though they do help us out and keeping that distinction is important. However, some of your ideas Brian and I have tossed around and at least one of them is on the table with FB at the moment. I appreciate your brainstorming.

And many thanks, Carl!

I use the basic version of Itunes to download the podcasts, and I don't have a proper account with any of those sites, but I did manage to leave a comment on Podcast Alley!

God I am a total dork but here are some more ideas to get some podcast pub-- I think the biggest opportunity would be to somehow build the buzz in conjunction with the fall tour. Then that way fb, fb.net and the podcasts will all win at a time when fans are easliy accessable.

*Pass out little flyers or stickers with the podcast address at Fall tour dates
* Announce podcast info at show
* Play podcast (or highlights) before show starts
* Record podcast at a show-- interview folks and have a table with a sign that says what the podcast is and where to find it
* Have someone drop off postcards or stickers of podcast info at recordstores on the tour
* Have fb play small set at a local radio show/recordstore and promote podcast
* Partner with local radio show/cool websites to promote podcasts/upcoming concerts in return for free tickets to be given to contest winners
* Insert info about fb.net and the podcasts on FB cds or put a sticker on the cd to that effect

I also don't know what other podcasts are out there but pairing up with some other podcasts and doing a little cross promotion wouldn't hurt either. That would be free, but it would take time to set up.

I know this costs more $ and time that you and Brian have on your own... but if you could get FB to pair up with you guys... it would really take off. I think the biggest challenge that you guys face is needing to build the awareness. Once that gets built, your product is so good and professional that the rest will take care of its self.

Anyway, hopefully this give you an idea that you can actually use. Keep up the great work!!

:) what I meant is when there are so many places to catch a podcast it makes it harder to be #1 in any one place (let's say I Tunes) b/c there are so many other places people can get it. Sort of like supply and demand... the demand is high, but it's spread out across a lot of sites so it just seems more diluted than it really is.... hope that makes more sense.

I'm not sure what you mean about the accessable part. I'm not expecting any publicity, there's a thousand and one of these out there, many of them probably quite a bit better (at least as far as hosts go; none compete with our material) but we'd just like to see it show up near or at the top in places like iTunes when you go to FB or the Pixies band pages. It looks like it's already moving, so thanks guys!

I don't know if a new thread is needed for each podcast but I wouldn't be adverse to trying it.

By all means, introduce some friends. It might be a little too geeky for the complete non fan but I'd be curious as to their reaction.

Thanks K.

hey happy to help out. have you guys thought just b/c the podcast IS so accessable that the reason that it hasn't gotten more pub is b/c listeners are so spread out?

also maybe we could start a thread for each podcast to "discuss". that will help grow the awarness even more here at the grass roots level.

i guess the other thing we all can do is let all our friends know how cool the podcasts are... i am ashamed to say but i have been keeping this little secret to myself.

anyway the podcasts rock and i am sure we're all happy to spread the podcast love. thanks for all the labor of luv that goes into these, the frank goodness is not lost on us.
