I was trying to find a quote I remember reading from FB to the effect that his songwriting approach was to "cut off one of the corners of a song" to make it interesting. Something like that. Anyone know where he said that?

In an old Guitar World interview Stone Gossard said that he liked the way Frank Black cut the last bar off of each measure of some of his songs, or something to that effect.

I don't know, I read it off the internet--I think it was from an interview and it could have been old. I am pretty sure it was Black...

I know of a few mentioning time signatures and one with a rhyming dictionary, but no cutting corners. Are we talking recently, or some years ago?
