Posted - 07/18/2006 : 20:19:03 Hello all...
Apparently the treacherous swine at the tops of various music industry organizations are making a serious effort to stamp out guitar tab websites. You should be purchasing the sheet music and not downloading people's interpretations of songs. If you do, you are a thief and should be horsewhipped. I bring this up now because "Guitar Tab Universe" has stopped posting tabs due to this. Could the folks at FB.net be next? Even if FB hisself said it was OK, the lawyers could trump him.
A quote from BBC back in December:
"The music industry is to extend its copyright war by taking legal action against websites offering unlicensed song scores and lyrics.
The US Music Publishers' Association (MPA), which represents sheet music companies, will launch its first campaign against such sites in 2006.
MPA president Lauren Keiser said he wanted site owners to be jailed.
He said unlicensed guitar tabs and song scores were widely available on the internet but were "completely illegal".
Mr Keiser said he did not just want to shut websites and impose fines, saying if authorities can "throw in some jail time I think we'll be a little more effective".
So grease up ye scurvy dogs. We'll all be in the Black Hole of Calcutta soon if Keiser gets his way. Selah. |

Posted - 07/27/2006 : 19:19:33 While whenever I want to learn a song immediately I go download it. That instant capability is irreplacable. One of the most prized sections of my book collection are songbooks. I will always pay for a beautifuly organized collection of songs I love. Internet tabs just dont give you that warm feeling and sense of rythm seeing songs in measured verse give you.
Its much the same for cd's. Sure I bootleg to see if I like something new or If I cant afford it immediately. But to musicians and groups I admire, I must go out and by the cd or when possible the vinyl. There isnothing like hearing an album for the first time while perusing through the liner notes. and so often to the credits turn me on or give me an appreciation for even more music. |

Posted - 07/20/2006 : 14:18:45 I'm working on a Honeycomb and FM/RM tablature book in Microsoft Word that will be printer friendly. It'll be just as good as buying the ones that don't exist at FYE. Plus they'll be free.
Some tabs should be banned just out of mere suckiness. But I'm all for artists and record companies going after sites that have ads and are making money off their sites which post tabs. But, if no money is being made off of tabs, I think that is ridiculous to say it is illegal. File sharing is illegal but it is still going on. I wouldn't worry about tabs not having a way to circulate. |

Posted - 07/19/2006 : 13:54:56 We're a mere hop, skip and jump from litigating chords and chord progressions and small successions of notes and intervals between notes and frequencies of vibrato modulations and levels of distortion and capo placements and picking patterns and meters and Pete Townshend arm motions, and so on.
That will be so very fun.

Posted - 07/19/2006 : 03:32:15 FB.Net is'nt advertised as a site for Frank tab, and the transcriptions are submitted by members of the forum. So I'm sure there's no need to sweat it just yet!

Posted - 07/18/2006 : 22:13:54 fuck 'em. is what i say. there was a website called dylanchords.com. it had every song, every version, perfectly, perfectly tabbed out, with all sorts of esoteric notes. then the guy took off the chords cuz he feared litigation. that type of shit makes me want to strangle someone. but seriously, i don't think this site should sweat it, right? |
