I don't know if this has been mentioned before...

I just went to lyleworkman.com and noticed a media player on the right side of the page. There is a song, among others, titled "News is Gonna Break" -Frank Black. It's a completely different "Dog Gone" version than the album. I assume it's arranged and recorded by Lyle Workman. It's acoustic guitar, with a banjo, synth strings, bass, piano and drums.

Is this a studio acoustic version he remixed?

I like the banjo but only during the verse part. The chorus banjo too closely follows the melody.

Didja check out the Beck covering Hank Sr. tune? Creepycalmy. Sounds like what you might hear if you were drowning.

I like the banjo but overall it's nowhere near as good as the FB&TC's version. Still, it's a nice alternate.

I quite like it as an alternate, some interesting things going on musically. Thanks for that, Derek!

It is rather strange...in a funny George Martin way. Would be interesting if it were recorded with a real orchestra! That would be awesome...Frank crooning over a symphonic rendition of Dog Gone with a full on choral accompanyment doing the 'ooohs' and 'news is gonna break'.

Man, I un-DIG that version. Creepy. It sounds like Frank is singing with a gun to his head.

Wow, thanks for that. A bit Midi-tastic for my liking but still pretty cool!

I'm not sure, I think it might be a version they did before the FB&TC version. Someone posted about this before. You can get the track out of your browser cache after if plays right through.

This was discussed a few months ago with a link to the MP3 directory at Lyle's site:
http://www.lyleworkman.com/mp3/

Judging by the title of the file, it was rerecorded in 2002.
