We all know and love Frank's penchant for obscure references,
Lord knows how often he's sent us to the dictionary or a Google search to see the meaning of a word.

So here's my question, what do you think of 2 songs mentioning
barleycorn on FMRM.

I know of 3 songs with barleycorn in them (Traffic has one) and 2 are on the same album.
I don't dislike, I just think it's odd.

That got me thinking about recuring themes or words FB has used
such as:

Space - mentioned so often in past reviews and articles
Black - in many songs
Dog - 3 song titles contain it
Peoples names in song titles - I counted around 20
Anagrams

I probably missed some, any more?

The Minus 5 have a song called "John Barleycorn Must Live."

"If you doze much longer, then life turns to dreaming. If you doze much longer, then dreams turn to nightmares."

A fine song indeed.

John Barleycorn is a medieval folksong from Britain. The character "John Barleycorn" in the song is a personification of the important cereal crop barley, and of the alcoholic beverages made from it, beer and whisky. In the song, John Barleycorn is represented as suffering attacks, death, and indignities that correspond to the various stages such as reaping and malting.

johny barleycorn was an expression used in the 1930's 1940's to mean alcohol. i don't know if in the songs it's used in this context though.

Of course the Ray Bradbury mentions. In "The Cult of Ray" and "Ole Mullholland." Perhaps there is another I'm missing.

I wouldn't worry too much, most of the responses are just people paraphrasing FB lyrics; listen to the beginning of Ole Mullholland.

Except for Carl. That went over my head.
