Posted - 05/02/2006 : 13:21:44 I may or may not have listened to a secret advance copy of Fastman Raiderman, so what you're about to read may be complete fiction.
In the past, I have fallen in love with Frank's "straight-to-two-track" recording mentality. I will say, though, that the refined audio on this newest record is amazing. The guitars really punch, and the music sounds beautiful.
So I love it both ways, I guess! I have hated Frank's last couple of albums... Honeycomb and Show Me Your Tears... I would have happily passed on both of 'em. But this new one is very exciting, and sounds freakin' great.

Posted - 05/08/2006 : 07:42:14 Someone was selling a promotional copy of FM/RM on ebay recently. It was selling for $30.00, with 6 bidders, at the time that I saw it. Last year, I purchased my copy of Honeycomb on ebay, 2 months before it was released. I paid $16.00 for it, and I was the only bidder.

Steev! You're back. It's been a while. I still laugh at those hilarious fake lyrics for "The Snake" you posted about 3 years ago. |

Posted - 05/04/2006 : 07:23:04 Yeah, Johnny Barleycorn. Plus it's song #2 on the CD, that's a good place for a single.

Posted - 05/04/2006 : 05:19:26 Maybe Mr JT could answer this.. Is it possible that there will be a commercial single released to promote FMRM? I don't think there are any unreleased tracks left in the can for b-sides though, so I'm thinking a single will be unlikely. Maybe an I Burn Today style promo only effort w/ some album tracks is the best we're gonna get.

Posted - 05/03/2006 : 19:17:28 Thanks y'all.
By the way, my guess about the Japanese bonus track was right on.
"Fare The Well" was remixed in Chicago, likewise "Kiss My Ring" and Highway To Lowdown." But not "Where The Wind," that's the Nashville mix.

Oh, and is this version of "Fare Thee Well" the same as from the Honeycomb sessions? Because if so, hot damn does this mastered version sound a thousand times better! So much more punch. I'll admit that I didn't notice a whole lot of difference between the mastered Honeycomb tracks and the ones that leaked back in 2004, but it's entirely obvious on FMRM that the holdovers have been cleaned up for the better.

Except for "Kiss my ring". But it's still great. |

Posted - 05/03/2006 : 13:23:20 You really think the drums aren't mixed well, Denis? I wast just listening to "In the Time of My Ruin" and the drumming on that totally kicked my teeth out. Especially the cymbal crashes. Mr. Tiven really did an amazing job on this one. The whole album, but this track especially.
...and the bass! However many people played bass on these recordings, they all played phenomenally, and Mr. Tiven really did them justice. Beautiful, warm bass.

Posted - 05/03/2006 : 06:28:46 Also, it's amazing what great musicians can do to an album. Not that Frank's back-up folks aren't normally good musicians, but these guys are great musicians. Wheepers!@# |

Posted - 05/02/2006 : 23:56:34 It's nice but I feel the drums are often mixed too low. Who knows if my copy is the definitive mix though.
