Posted - 04/16/2006 : 14:41:37 On my bike ride today, I decided to find the location of the Black Letter Days cover photo. When the album came out, I recognized the Los Angeles River and the Verdugo Mountains. I've finally found the exact spot.
Here are two photos I took today: photo 1 photo 2
The location is at the center of this page at Google Maps. The photographer was standing just inside the fence of a horse stable property facing NNW. The trees are a little fuller now but the rest matches up. |

Yeah you got it. It's next to the river (which is next to the 5, of course) between Los Feliz Blvd and Colorado Blvd. |

Awesome, I always wondered where that was. We know that Dog in the Sand is shot on some long abandoned building that's fallen into ruin, and now this one.

Posted - 04/17/2006 : 03:34:23 I've just had a quick peek in Photoshop and it looks great, spot on. I'm supposedly going to the zoo today (if it's open) so i'll keep a look out for the peacock responsible for Devil's Workshop. |

Posted - 04/16/2006 : 18:35:15 Peter Radiator, I took the photos with my 3-megapixel Sony DSC-P71. The originals are 1280x960 pixels, approx 320kB each. Hope that helps. Email me if you want the originals posted on the web.
Dean, you're right -- the cover of DITS was taken in front of the Sutro Baths ruins at the end of Geary Blvd in San Francisco. I've been there many times and have some photos but they are prints and I can't drag out the old scanner right now. If you're ever in SF just go here. |

Posted - 04/16/2006 : 16:04:48 How high is the resolution on those original photos you took? In other words, if one were to print them out at approximately 5" wide, what would the resolution be without cheating and increasing it in Photoshop.
I hope I phrased this question in a way that's easy to grok.
Thanks!

Posted - 04/16/2006 : 15:01:40 Oh yeah, good spot BLT. Looks a lot less depressing in the sunshine. You know I only noticed yesterday that the cover of Black Letter Days was turned on its side. What a dumbass I am.
