Okay, so I downloaded both B-Sides albums from itunes and I was wondering if anyone knew how to save the artwork (that you get with the album purchase) to your computer.

My plan is to resize the artwork so it will fit in a CD case because I'm very adamant about having at least some artwork. I was also planning on making a back cover with the song titles on it in photoshop. Also, if there's interest, I will post these on the forum for anyone to dl.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

This is what I'm referring to:

Produced by Eric Drew Feldman
Recorded by Kevin Ink
Performed by Frank Black (vocal, guitar), Scott Boutier (drums), Eric Drew Feldman (piano), Rich Gilbert (guitar and pedal steel guitar), David McCaffery (bass, vocals)

I didn't think it was a Frank Black tune either, I was pretty sure it was adapted from the traditional you can also hear in "O'Brother" for instance... But I decided to follow Brian's notes, which I don't suppose he made up, and I also figured that if the song had been officially considered a cover, it would have been on "Snake Oil".

Does this answer your question? (It was hard to guess what the question was to begin with.)

Thanks, that would be great Frequency. I look forward to seeing them.
To be honest I think if something is released on itunes then it should come with front and back covers anyway. It's not as if they aren't expecting people to want to put it onto a c.d. is it?

Just bought the two Catholics albums off itunes.
Has anyone made any back covers for the two albums that they wouldn't mind sharing?

That hitchhiking photo is cool, perfect for the "one more road for the hit" CD.

I cleaned up some of the awful artifacting because I am a perfectionist with too much time on my hands, Here.

No, that's a snake head eating the head on the opposite side. The snake biting its own tail is the Ouroboros. And the AURIN from "The Neverending Story" was made up of two snakes biting each other's tails.

I recall that the scientist who discovered it had reached a conceptual impasse but then one night dreamt of a snake grasping its own tail, making a ring. He awakened in a Eureka! state, realizing that the molecular structure of benzene was that of a ring or circle. Can't benzene be thought of as a type of oil or somesuch? I know squat about chemistry and don't really know whether this story is true, but that's what the cover made me think of.

the snake eating it's tail has been around since yester year.

As other folks have said, the cover art should download in a decently hi-res format. iTunes has some basic but usable printing options built in -- just go to Print, choose "CD Jewel Case Insert", and select "Single Cover" to print a standard CD cover with the song listing.

As the designer of the two new FB albums on iTunes, it's nice to see folks liking the simple art... thanks :)

Awsome fonts as well BigBlur, great work!

Actually, getting the hi-res images from itunes was so simple, I looked right over it. When you're playing the album, the cover will come up in the bottom left-hand corner. Simply right-click on it and it will give you the option to Copy. Simply do that and I just pasted the images to my desktop.

My problem was I clicked on the artwork to make it bigger, but itunes won't let you copy from that size. Even though, the pics posted above were not resized at all. They're 600x600.

Hope that helps!!

Thanks. These are links to downloads of the original .bmp from which Freuency31 made the .jpg. They're ~1M each.

Well, it's one thing to accept "snake oil" as referring to the discovery of benzene, but it's a stretch to see benzene as oil. But benzene can be a motor fuel, at least according to my dictionary. There's also the definition of "snake oil" as a bogus substance sold as a remedy, more generally used as a term for anything bunk. I can see Frank metaphorically thinking of oil as a bogus remedy for the world's energy problems. But the key is thinking the circular ring suggests a snake grasping its own tail in its mouth. There's most likely nothing to it. I mentioned it because the association popped into my head.

edit: I forgot to mention that the circular snake anecdote is often cited as an example of the intuitive nature of much creativity, scientific and otherwise. So, when I was first thinking about the benzene thing and wondering why Frank would even use such an idea for an album title, the best I could do was reference to creativity as hard work plus intuition, and Frank is all about hard work plus unusual gifts of mind.

PixieSteve Posted - 02/20/2006 : 19:32:02
what has snake oil got to do with benzene?

No rush and don't go buying it twice if you have it, I'll get it somewhere. Thanks though.
