The first that comes to my mind is "Don't Cry No Tears" by Neil Young with Crazy Horse on Zuma, very Catholiquesque.

Dreaming Of 4000 by Electric Light Orchestra, especially once Jeff breaks into the vocal delivery of the chorus, to me really reminds me of Charles. The similarity is especially pronounced on the alternate mix which is entitled "Mambo," and is a little more raw/less produced.

The beginning of the XTC song "Shake You Donkey Up" sounds similar to the beginning of "Kicked In The Taco."

Pavement's Lorettas' Scars uses a similar chord progression to Debaser!

my first post : i think a fair few of songs by the chalets sounds like a mixture of early frank and breeders tunes mixed together

Mexican Radio = Wall of Voodoo = Stan Ridgway = Frank collaborator/producer

I got some heaven in my head

Also, am I the only one who think They Might Be Giant's "Dig My Grave" sounds like a Pixies song?

dyperman Posted - 01/14/2006 : 07:27:35
Theres a modest mouse song "The view" where I could swear there is the same part as on Ole Mullholland. with the buiihorn part like when he goes....The concrete from the aquaduct will last as long as the pyramids of egypt......

wish I could be as cool as Kim Deal

Always. But out of curiosity, what would you do if i sang out of tune, would you stand up and walk out on me?

The start of 'Sad Man's Song' sounds (vaguely) like 'Apache'.
oddball Posted - 01/03/2006 : 15:47:26
Monster Hospital by Metric sounds like a Pixies or Frank Black tune. I guess many Metric songs do in fact.

When I said 'you' and 'your' i meant whoever is of the opinion the forum is lame.
The subject doesn't really interest me. I just log on, do my thing, then go.

'The end of medicine' by the New Pornographers sounds very much like something Frank could have come up with in his first two solo albums.

well i didn't mean to piss you off, fbc, i was just refering to the 'this forum is turning lame' topic in the general section. but if you didn't read it, maybe YOU are the one thinking the forum is lame! ha! whaddya think about that?! ;)
fbc Posted - 12/31/2005 : 02:21:41
it's not Brackish Girl. Sometimes you have to look a little deeper or just look up the board.
I know it's quite high up here but we have plenty of tissues for any potential nose bleeds.

to knock the forum for not providing entertainment in your moment of boredom i see as your (not yours, bg) problem not the forum's. Switch the machine off and come back tomorrow.
Brackish Girl Posted - 12/30/2005 : 17:36:06
hah. i don't think this forum is lame at all.

i'm bored by Iggy Pop sounds similar to fB's stuff. to me.

they got the keys to the city but we got a lotta shakin in our hips!

I remember reading an interview with Goldie in Big Issue (2 names anyone outside the UK is unlikely to know but..), and he said that Modest Mouse sounded like the Pixies would nowadays if they'd kept going. I was most suprised when i got round to hearing MM, Goldie is cleary out of his frucking tree.

Maybe I just didn't hear the right songs, then. Curious, I shall have to download.

honey, the same thing happened to me, but without goldie and the big issue. i think mine was tricky in uncut. anyways, they don't usually sound like the pixies, just this song and a couple of others off 'the lonesome crowded west' album. it's a really good album by the way.

Ready for love - Nick Cave

His latest album sort of has a Catholic feeling.
