Posted - 09/18/2005 : 11:31:58 Yes I'm aware of the song oracle thread dedicated to this song, but it's archived and locked and it's been almost two years, and there's been much bashing of this most excellent tune of late, so I humbly give you the lyrics:
Why do you hate me? Why don't you just simmer down? You could be doing great things Instead of just pushing me around Or maybe just be sleeping Even you at times must get tired
You're such a wire You're such a wire Look at you You're such a wire
Look at you Packing it Blasting it You're such a wire
The world it looks so big But it feels so small I'm snapping like a twig In this dried up, dying fall I think the winter is going to be a real whirligig
Why do I hate you? That''s because I am full of it If all your dreams came true Then you must be completely full of it You won't catch me weeping 'Cause you know that I'm not a crier
I'm such a wire Im such a wire Look at me I'm such a wire
Look at me Packing it Blasting it I'm such a wire
All hail Pistolero. Long live the Catholics!
I like this song. I like the lyrics and I like the music. Discuss. And most definitely disagree if you disagree.

Nothing better than "packing it and blasting it", and yes, I've been told it is mighty tasty

seems like chuck used to be hard as nails at those times...
but i can relate to it, really. or at least understand.

Gonna go shed a tear or two right now. Anybody care to join me?

Posted - 10/17/2005 : 05:58:05 This was one of my favourite songs off Pistolero from early listens along with Bad Harmony, Billy R & Smoke-Up. As time has passed, I still love it. A great song to my ears.

Posted - 10/16/2005 : 13:38:57 Pistolero is probably my least favorite FB album (out of the ones I have). This song (like most on the album) is pretty mediocre. Not good, not bad. There are only a couple really exceptional songs on the album.
Are you lookin' for the motherlode? |

Posted - 10/14/2005 : 22:05:35 I bought Pistolero soon after it was released but I never got into it. You guys inspired me to blow the dust off and give it another spin. I like this song a lot right now. "Why do you hate me?..." It makes me sad to think of anyone hating Frank Black. I wonder what inspired this song... Thanks everyone for helping me discover another whole CD of Frank's music to help tide me over until the next one finally comes along! |

Posted - 09/20/2005 : 04:16:38 I don't think it's a Stones "ripoff" or funny imitation. I just think it has a Stones vibe going on. I don't have a problem with that at all. I guess if folks want the guy to do nothing but sound like the Pixies for his entire career then so be it, but obviously The Catholics are Franks "rawk and roll" band so afaic it fits in fine... |

Posted - 09/20/2005 : 03:06:55 No sorry... It's cool to be against the wave and all, but this song is indeed a R Stones, Dylan funny imitation and really does not bear comparison with so many beautiful tunes Frank Black recorded. ... for me....

Posted - 09/20/2005 : 00:28:25 A Stones rip-off? I don't hear that at all. I like the whole "Why do you hate me" "Why do I hate you" duality going on there. I guess you could say in a record with a bunch a rockin shit it is kind of a straggler, but still a great song to me.

Posted - 09/19/2005 : 11:21:27 The first time I listened to Pistolero, "Wire" was immediately thrust into godlike status. It's classic Frank.
It also contains one of my all time favorite lyrics: "If all your dreams came true then you must be completely full of it." |

I know, Denis. This is not a good song. It is "ugly". But it's also a Stones rip-off. |

Posted - 09/18/2005 : 14:29:15 I think it has a pretty cool "Rolling Stones-ish" vibe. I like it. It's not a classic or anything, but a solid tune... |

Posted - 09/18/2005 : 12:37:52 I think it's a pretty good song, although not a favorite of mine. As far as the first half of Pistolero goes, it's one of the best.
