Posted - 08/13/2005 : 02:44:18 This is my first post to any blog but I've been a fan of the Man for a while and I've been reading your postings on this website for a while and find them most interesting so I'll try it.
The song on Honeycomb called 'Sing For Joy' has the lyrics (correct me if I'm wrong)
We had to wander seven years out west It wasn't exactly the wilderness But I felt like an Israelite
Is he talking about the Pixies or what?

Posted - 08/16/2005 : 13:27:15 What I orginally thought in comparing the Pixies to this:
We had to wander seven years out west It wasn't exactly the wilderness But I felt like an Israelite
The Pixies were together for about 7 years (sure they broke up in '93 but that was early '93 and they hadn't spoke for several months) but while they were together, Frank thought that he wasn't lost (wasn't exactly the wilderness) but he wasn't were he wanted to be (felt like an Isrealite). This could relate to his personal life but I see it more of dealing with the other band members as well as the music he was creating at the time. I think this also relates to the whole theme of Honeycomb of not being in your space in life were you are at home and feel most comfortable.

Yeah, Joey was supposed to bring the pumpkins, but he thought Kim was. Then Frank brought the sugar, when he was supposed to bring the grilled cheese. It was a mess, and they didn't talk to each other for years.

Posted - 08/13/2005 : 12:01:27 I guess ya never know, but the "wander seven years out west" line is in the middle of a verse about family. It reminds me of Frank talking about how his family moved around a lot when he was a child.
(Or maybe the Pixies originally broke up over some misunderstanding over pumpkins, sugar, and grilled cheese!!! Hmmm....)
In the GQ article last year, I think Frank mentions how this was one of the big issues that came up when he was in therapy. |

"We had a wander seven years out West"

Posted - 08/13/2005 : 06:38:45 Hey, didn't the Israelites wander in the desert for FORTY years?
Not that seven isn't a really significant number in the Bible.

Posted - 08/13/2005 : 04:29:45 I think it's a song about some personal experiences. maybe he moved somewhere for 7 years with his family, or wandered there. Bloody hell, now that's a long time wandering
Maybe they just did a gump and wandered west just because they could. hmm, i wander.. |
