I was reading through Mojo the other day and they were running a 'hundred greatest Dylan songs feature'. There were various music folk supporting their favourite ones and I think Frank Black said 'Stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis blues again' was his most loved. Well, on the cover CD that came with the mag there were several Dylan covers and Hugh Cornwell covered that song.
Anyway, to get to the point the cover was a bit crap and I got to thinking how perfectly suited the song is to Frank's style and was wondering... has he ever covered it before, or any Dylan songs for that matter?

Yeah it sounds like the post crash albums!
I dont know why Frank said Honeycomb and FMRM where his "Black on Blonde".
It's really much closer to Nashville Skyline and J W Harding.
Blonde on blonde is happily approximative in the sound and the performances, it sounds like a drunk demo. A real Black on Blonde would be interesting. A drunk garage-folk album from Frank Black... Even Christmass is closer to Blonde on Blone than the Tiven Albums ! |

I remember listening to "Superabound" a few years back. My dad asked if I was listening to Bob Dylan. The lines "he was debating with his clone" and "they still got nothing to do" always sounded a bit Dylanesque to my ears as well.

I've always hoped Frank would record a cover of LMZ/NL, too. Concerned it might be a bit too "wordy" for a FB tune.

I've recently fallen in love -- again -- with Dylan's "Love Minus Zero/No Limit". It's one of those rare songs I hear and think I'd love to hear Frank tackle it.

Being a huge Dylan fan, I loved getting the All The Tired Horses intro for the FB&TC shows we caught in April 2001. It was pretty cool how they played it. The album version started playing over the PA and then the band would join in, kinda one at a time, until they all were playing it. Great stuff! And to bring it full circle, before a FB&TC's show in Chicago the following April, my wife chatted Charles up before the show at a bar next door to the club (while I was saving a place in line!) and he told her that he had spent part of the day checking out local music stores and was able to snag a vinyl copy of Bob's Self Portrait (which leads off with All The Tired Horses). |

I do think that Hugh Cornwells cover wasn't as good as the original
in terms of I was bored after 5 verses
but to say that it's a bad cover

I like his voice and the fact that he added melody to

I love All The Tired Horses. I remember hearing that FB+Catholics use that as intro music live, and thinking, 'wow, cool!' I like to sing and play it on guitar, it's fairly simply. |

Has anyone heard Frank Black's cover of Belle Isle by Bob Dylan? I think it was supposed to appear on the oddballs 2 "One more road for the hit" album. Any more word on its release?

He did a nice cover of 'Changing of the Guards' with the Catholics
