Sounds like somebody shot the proverbial wad and plucked that string pretty hard before the next riff was to begin.
I know this was done w/ very little editing, but it seems like this would be something not to leave in, regardless.
Did you hear it, too?

I agree with the estimable Mr. Tiven. I like that little "ploink."

It's a little piece of imperfection that makes the song more beautiful.

I think there's something somewhere in Eastern thought that says something about this, but now I'm getting gauche.

Little things like muted notes are what adds character to music. Hence the reason Jon and Frank didn't want to use protools. When I went to mix this song I thought it had so much character why F*ck with things when they had VIBE!

Besides listen to all the classic rock albums!!!

It sounds fine to me...i likes it

If the UPS guy is driving around in a Mercedes truck...I think we should still be impressed because, hey, its a Mercedes.

The original working title for this song was MY LIFE IS IN STORAGE/FUNK
aka MY LIFE IS IN STORAGE 0:00-1:47 FUNK 1:48+

I think a lot of people skip the FUNK bit, but I like it. It's a nice transition to the solo, which is a nice intro to ATOM...

Every time I hear Reggies' solo at the end of this song, it reminds me of why I ever picked up the instrument. Any little "flubs" are completely vindicated by Mr. Young.

I am stuck on that pluck and I likes it...

My thoughts exactly, Samurai. My best guitar licks sound like Steve Cropper's mistakes!

Just because it's a muted note it would never cross my mind as being a mistake. My mistakes don't sound that good, anyhoo.
OldManInaCoffeeCan Posted - 07/26/2005 : 08:37:15
Well, here's my thoughts on this:

I think with an artist and musician such as Steve Cropper, everything you hear in the song is intended to be heard. I don't hear that plucking that you refer to as [edit: being] a mistake. The author of the song gave the final two minutes of the song to the lead guitar and in those last two minutes, the notes and sound of the lead guitar conveys much feeling and emotion.

To me, that particular plucking emphasizes the loneliness, frustation, and incompleteness of the author's life without his lover, because it sounds like one string being played by itself, not in conjunction or not aided by another.
