What do you guys think of Jean's vocals? I think they sound kind of bad until Frank sings with her. It's cool she's on the album though. It's a cool song too. All the songs are cool!

Pablo Picasso never got called an asshole.

I think the song's cute. I've always wondered what she looks like. You guys know the scene on the tour part of the dvd where Charles is pointing out the Arc De Triumph? You think that's her beside him?

I like to think it's obvious anyhow.

come foward Kate,

who are you?

you seem to have inside info
and here on fb.net
you always have to say who you are if you inside info
and then we won't believe you
and call you names
that's a ritual
the fb.net

maybe we could break with the ritual
and say:

hi kate,
welcome aboard!

I wonder if Jean's laughing her ass off about that rumor.

She is, and for the record, she was given the song the night before it was recorded. She rocks!

It takes balls to do any kind of duet especially when your not a practicing vocalist. Jeans' got a big set on her!

I do too. I thought I posted here earlier, but before I knew who did the vocals, I thought it was a Loretta Lynn. I think Jean has a beautiful voice and if she wanted to, I bet she could record her own record.
Zsolt G. Posted - 08/05/2005 : 08:44:48
This is probably my favorite song on the record. I think she sings just great. It's all very Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood's "Jackson". In fact I especially like her second verse. It's so....off the cuff. Thank you Jean, I take back any nasty things I may have said about the artwork to SMYT and appreciate your contribution to Strange Goodbye. Cheers.

Yeah, me too. She's so far from hitting the right note that it more or less ruins the song for me.

She sounds like Kim Deal to me, I like it.

Surely Now she IS a singer and a musician

Great Duet...Classic Country Cliche...I Love it

I was impressed that she was singing the harmony part on the chorus. She knows what she's doing.
However, I agree with the others in that I enjoy her part on the album just for her history with Frank...definitely not for her voice quality.

1. I am a fsh with no i's.
2. You must be wearing Zubaz, 'cause you're daring to be different.
3. I am a man with 3 fingers...but that doesn't count my index finger nor my thumb.

I quite like them. Frank vocals fit perfectly with female ones.

He should re-record some Catholics tracks with a female singer (please, don't kill me). With a professional one, of course.

While not polished, I found her vocals extremely enjoyable. What the song stands for in my mind is much more important. It sounds like such a heartfelt song.
VoVat Posted - 07/22/2005 : 16:33:44
I don't really care for them. I think she's trying to go for a country thing, but not succeeding all that well. Maybe they'll grow on me, though.

David Byrne is the man.

My sentiments exactly.
misterwoe Posted - 07/22/2005 : 10:49:46
First of all, David Byrne is the man. Secondly, after several listens I find Jean Black's voice stuck in my head. "I used to live in a big black cloud..." And you know what? I kind of like it.

Pablo Picasso never got called an asshole.
HeywoodJablome Posted - 07/22/2005 : 08:11:03
And for those who don't like it, at least it's one of the shortest songs on the record! I think it was David Byrne however who said,"The better the singers voice, the less you believe what they're saying."
danjersey Posted - 07/21/2005 : 19:15:37
i think she sings real nice. the song over all when you consider the circumstance is one of if not the greatest duets of all time, there is not a kernal of corn in it and like the rest of the record it is straight up, no chaser.

Knowing what the song is about though and knowing who she is changes all of that and I think it's a great touch. It doesn't really matter that she's not a polished singer.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Without their history, i doubt she would have been first choice to sing it.
Without their history, there would be no Strange Goodbye.

here, here.

It's all very strange.
