Was looking for some infos about the three stooges and saw that article amazingly complete for this kind of website

That is great news. And thanks for clearing up my mistake. The manager at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano was either mis-informed or just making stuff up. And whatever the interview was I read was obviously false. I'm sorry to those who I stood up to earlier in the thread...I was going on two bad sources. And now, I'm off to find my honeycomb...I've seemed to have misplace my cd.

I went to both of the 2001 Troubador shows and the second one in particular was the best gig I have ever seen. Anyone remember the KILLER version of "Fiddle Riddle". It was God like. I read an article where FB was seeing a vocal coach and was sucking on black licorice after shows to soothe his chords. Everytime I've seen FB (about 8-9 times so far) his range has been incredible.

He obviously has not caused any lasting, crippling damage to his vocal chords since he is playing a slew of Pixies songs and belting out the ol' scream.
However, this might be a plausible reason that some of the way-screamy Pixies songs are being totally ignored.
like Rock Music and Sad Punk. I really hope that is the justification, because the fact that they're ignoring these two songs during their current tours is really just criminal and pisses me off. |

I remember when he had damaged his voice back in 1999. It was during the Pistolero tour. I had tickets to see him the followint night, and was horrified to learn the show was cancelled indefinatley. It was horrible! I would have been content to have sat through a Catholics show where Frank whispered everything than to not see him at all!

The night of the show indicated, I was told by the manager of the establishment was that Thompson went to the hospital the previous night following a show in Nevada due to serious vocal strain. All shows following for months were cancelled. This was in '99 during Pistolero tour, and I read elsewhere (I apologize for not being able to provide the hard proof) in an interview preceeding DITS that the mellowness of DITS was intentional as a new approach to his vocalizations.
So there is evidence to back up the article in question. Obviously he didn't full-on destroy his voice, but he had a very serious injury which caused him to adjust quite a bit. As for his current shrieking, yes, he is doing quite an impressive job. Perhaps he is totally healed. Perhaps he has had a lesson or two on how to project with limited cause for worry. Perhaps he just doesn't care. Whatever the case may be, I'm gonna stick to what I heard and read 6 years ago when it happened...and which stole my show!

It sounds like this article was written by someone who likes to make things up.
If anyone believes Frank's vocal chords are damaged, you oughta check the news section of this site and see that the Pixies got back together last year and Frank is still singing the old songs.
Also, the sky is blue and George W. Bush is the president of the USA. |

In my opinion, this is just a supposition. We could be led to think that Frank's voice was altered through the years as he did not SCREAM like a sad punk anymore in his solo days, but the comeback of the Pixies prove the contrary... Don't trust everything you read...

Poor Frank.  I had heard rumours of the damage to his vocal chords.
So sad. Hopefully he's not in pain. That must be so hard to keep screaming like he does.
