Ok tell me how great it is to finally hold honeycomb in your hands??

I know all you people in France are that lucky

How does it feel?? Did you cry???? Did you laugh? Did you scream? Did you sing for joy?

I just bought my copy yesterday and its beautiful! Its on heavy rotation until the Sicialian presents itself. And on a sad note, my buddy burned a hole through the back artwork of the disc. Guess I'll need to get another copy now and keep it behind a plate of glass. Maybe even get an alarm on otion sensor or something.

Great visual Daisy Girl of you sick in bed, your husband brings you a package, and you rip it open "like that little kid charlie" (I'm picturing the original "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and not the recently released movie.

And comparing Honeycomb to a friends baby is quite poetic and very well put!

Honeycomb has been in my hands for a week now... i was sick so didn't go back to look for this thread until now.

But honestly... it nearly made me cry that honeycomb came when I was so sick. i was so sick that even though I remebered it was supposed to come out that day... but my husband was like you have a package....

I opened it up feverishly knowing what was inside. like that little kid charlie opening up a wonka bar on charlie and the chocolate factory... i ripped open the cellophane and plopped in the disc.

while it was playing i surveyed the inside art (i had seen the other art work.) the pics of Frank lying out side of the storage and at a drive in cracked me up!!! the shrimps were more beautiful than I had thought... for some reason i thought they would be un cooked. I loved all the pictures of the wood and the growth ring on the trees was symbolic.

it was like holding a friends baby in your arms in a way that you are had nothing to do with that beautiful work, but you are so proud of your friend and you knew their baby would be so beautiful all along.

Got mine today! Didn't want to listen to any demos or hear peoples thoughts on it until I'd given it an offcial listen. I have to say I think it's really great, I think he's really nailed his country/rock, Americana sound/vibe. No disrespect to the Catholics, but I think it's a much more solid and rounded album then SMYT. Faves at the mo are I Burn Today, Song of the Shrimp, SSMVGD(first time I heard it, great song), Honeycomb(fave of all), Sing for Joy. Dark End of the Street didn't live up to my expectations but The Flying Burrito Brothers version is class and Gram is the Man, apart from the other Man that is .

It does feel good...VERY good finally! What are people noticing about the differences in the finished product vs the leak? Me-on 2nd listen, and it seems the bass is very much more present than in the leaked version, and the sound of the vocals in certain areas is smoother somehow-don't know how to describe it-like it is melded into the music a littl more. All in all sounds very nice.

the day has finally come. it's very lovely. thanks for asking!

as an aside the hmv store from where i picked it up only had 1 copy shipped to them! the store clerk said he didn't think it was a mistake. how's the man supposed to sell his records if they don't stock em in the store!!!

I feel relieved. My copy of Honeycomb took two weeks to reach me from amazon.fr. I thought it had been lost somewhere.

It feels like ages since I've heard a new Frank album.

Still, I'm starting to realise that this is my favourite FB album since TOTY... slightly better than Dog in the sand, I think (maybe not so many classic FB songs, but more consistant as a whole). It's one of those rare albums I can listen to over and over. I love every little detail on this record, how the album starts with "Selkie bridge", those two guitar notes just before Frank sings "if you return again", that little thing Spooner Oldham does at the end of "Another velvet nightmare", the way "Sunday Sunny Mill Valley Groove Day" makes it impossible for me not to sing high-pitched backing vocals on the "groooove day" part, the brilliance of "Atom in my heart". I should do a geek-list of all these little details I love about Honeycomb.
I'm very impressed by the publicity this album is creating. Frank deserves every praise. As do all that were involved with Honeycomb.
I'll shut up now.

No one told you to shut up!! Your passion for Frank is nothing to be ashamed off!

Velvety, that was a beautiful post. I feel the same way as you... it is an album that you can listen to over and over and not get bored!!

You're right you could write a novel about how great this album is!!!

I only have the leaked version!!! I can't WAIT for the real thing!!!!!

Hey Carl, I think I'd take a copy of FB's HOneycomb ANY day over that OUCH!!!

What's it like to hold honey and a comb in your hand???
Carl Posted - 07/15/2005 : 17:49:01
If you raid a beehive, you can find what it's like to hold honeycomb in your hands! ;)

You know LaPile... that's a great point now there IS a Frank Black album for every mood.

Hey what's the album for vaklempt? lol.
LaPile Posted - 07/15/2005 : 10:28:34
and who's the most stupid French here? me of course who decided to live in the US and not to be the first to enjoy this new release...well luckily enough I got an advance CD 2 weeks ago ;-)
I listened to it in loop and after 3 or 4 times I began to appreciate all songs, their sound and details...now I'm totally addicted... not a big surprise though. The good thing with this album is that now I have a FB album to match each of my moods... this one will be perfect for Sunday mornings for example.

I still have to run to my local Borders to get it down here in Puerto Rico "Isla Del Encanto".When I hold it in my hands I hope it feels like when Frank held his baby boy for the first time, miraculously magical(I think?).Que Viva Frank Black!!!!!!

It's always great to hold a new Frank Black album for the first time.
It's not that great to be disappointed by a Frank Black album for the first time (oh i'm gonna be hated for saying that...)
HeywoodJablome Posted - 07/11/2005 : 18:47:33
I for one also appreciated the link to the songs since some of us don't have enough of the "compu nerd" gene in us to go hunt down a half assed bootleg of the record. But it was a nice little sampling of a record I will certainly be buying.
Daisy Girl Posted - 07/11/2005 : 18:28:57
I have this mental picture of the three franks and the three shrimp. I can't wait a whole week to find out more!
Carl Posted - 07/11/2005 : 02:07:41
Not while driving, hopefully!
Superabounder Posted - 07/10/2005 : 18:28:48
What a cool thread! I read the french posts in a french accent in my head. It sounded so sweet to me! God I cannot wait to hear the sonic accents and seasonings they added to the leaked version! And to hold the case and smell the new cd smell as I first open it in the front seat of my car!

you guys are so lucky :)

july 19th you're taking forever to get here!
averell Posted - 07/09/2005 : 14:41:34
I bought it the very day of release. Well, I listened to it about 5 times, all I can say is that it so Frank Black ! Soft, warm, so pleasant to the ear ! I agree that several FB albums take time to be appreciated (Show me... but now, whoa !), but I loved that one since the first listening. Youy wont be disappointed.... soon ;)
Georges Abitbol Posted - 07/09/2005 : 10:23:21
in my hands it feeled good, but for the moment in my ears, not so much. I know every FB's album needs time to reveal the veal, but there, I've got troubles. wait and ear.
but the cover is nice, I must admit.
