Here are some pictures from June 8, 2005 at Layla’s Bluegrass Inn, Jen Jones & The Cameros,
featuring Rich Gilbert and Steve Latanation. I may have a few more, but I think these are my favorites.
(No review, too hungover and too much shit to do at work, and, Joshua wasn’t there…)

Pushing on the strings behind the nut is a cool way to change or "bend" the pitch, too. That's how Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) does the intro to Iron Man. There are many, many tricks that I don't have any idea about. One of my secrets is to pour beer in the pickups for a neat "electrical disaster" sound. Try it!

Yeah, bold99, I was aware of that. There is a good bio on Rich here at FB.net in the "Site, Band Bio" section. I see
from your link to the Tarbox Ramblers site that they are currently on tour.
So, are you a big fan of Rich Gilbert? I see from your profile that your from Massachusetts and I was wondering
if you've seen him play much over the years, what with him living in those parts for so long.

Hey scruvs, you got that right, this is Honky-tonk heaven and every night is a party down on Lower Broad, where "hollerin' and swallerin'" is encouraged!
And Carl, it really is hard to imagine all the beautiful women here in Nashville. They all strive to stand by, and take care of, their man. I can name you 10 women without thinking too hard that are single, pretty, self-sufficient, and here's the most important part, non-psychotic with no personality disorders. Of course, if you go out with them more than 3-4 times get ready to be asked about a commitment, which is not always a bad thing!
There is a rather diverse population of these worthy women who were either born here or migrated from small towns surrounding Nashville, or who have come here from around the States with aspirations of a music career. We also have international beauties from Central and South America, Asia and other exotic locations.
Yep, before Mrs. CoffeeCan and I got married, my dating experiences here in Nashville would most closely be analagous to dining, buffet style, at your favorite restaurant (translation of buffet style: chosing the tastiest culinary delights from a wide selection, as much and as often as your appetite is so inclined). [I may have included some hyperbole here, but not much!]
Anyway, let me know when you can visit and I'll hook you up with your first 10 dates.

Yeah, I've tried that before playing Monkey. (I think it's probably the Violins doing that, though.) Fugazi are a band that do some cool stuff like that. |

it's a neat little trick.
You know nirvana (i'm sure you do)? you can hear these strings strummed clean then distorted at the beginning of 'Oh The Guilt'
beautiful sound. the distortion that is. i want, i want.

Kathryn, I never noticed Rich's jeans, I couldn't keep my eyes off his Fenders and fingers!
Yeah, Rosa, Layla's is exactly what it appears to be, a genuine, no-frills, honky-tonk. Check out the pictures
on the wall behind Rich when he's sitting at the table, the room is old and shot-gun style (about 15 feet wide and 60 feet long,
straight back to an alley next to the Ryman Auditorium (Grand Ole Opry)). And most of bands that play there are
genuine musicians, devoted and addicted to their craft, and, yes they are paying their dues, but most are happy
to be doing it. It's like Rich said after The Mercy Lounge show, "You¹ve got to walk a little
before you can run, and most of the time it's still better than real life."
Missed Joshua that night, he wasn't there, but I was able to sit and talk with Rich and Steve
after the show for a long time. Great guys, with a whole lot of Rock and Roll between
the two of them, and great conversations about anything you want to discuss,
well, anything I wanted to discuss (I won't speak for you Rosa). |
