I have always tried to force my musical tastes on people gathered for dinner....in my experience, Devil's Workshop has been the most well received by parents and in-laws.
That has been my experience.
...I am just saying this because I think that 'Honeycomb' from my listening of it, has the potential to reach a much wider, and maybe appeal to an older audience.
I hope the album does well.

My mom even liked CoR. She "borrowed" SMYT for a while, and I had to steal it back.

My pops didn't like the lyrics. Thought they were lame.. didn't compare to Buddy Holly I guess.

"it's so easy to fall in love" - now that's fucking true!!

Baltimore.. Dallas Fortworth?? What the hell does that have to do with girls?

My mom has never been able to get past lines like "you are the son of a motherfucker" and "kiss me cock, kiss me cunt".

I remember playing Violent Femmes in front of my parents when I was 12, and coughing loudly, when he got to "just one f..k" in Add It Up. I did this everytime I played the song
(and like most 12 year olds, who played Femmes very often, it became habit, I became creative and replaced the cough with stuff like sudden interjections, like "HEY...did you hear about...?"

Soon enough you'll be doing that with your kids.

Why Carolyn? I won't do that.

I wasn't as lucky as most of you, my parents hated my music, and as fbc says, I never listened to the femmes with them around!

I still believe in the excellent joy of the Catholics

Some people know nothing about music, but knowledge is not the center of the universe. Even if it were, one could argue that music is a lesser important field of knowledge than physics, chemistry, physiology, or medicine. You know, there's no nobel prize for a melody. Personally, I wouldn't argue that point. I will say that there are some people with whom I focus on certain topics to talk. The only way I would ever consider not being friends with someone for the sole reason that they are musically ignorant is if music was the only possible topic.

Looking back at that paragraph I just wrote, I realize that what I said was all rational thinking. Rationality is all well and good, but if my opinions were to stem from pure feeling, they would be quite different from my "rational" thought.

For example: It's irrational to think that anyone who can watch an episode of "friends" without puking is an idiot. Yet, that's how I feel whenever I see a commercial for that awful show.

Thus, I understand what you're saying.

Um, not to go off topic again, but, Ice Cream, I don't understand
what you're saying.

Both my parents like the sounds of Frank, especially the Catholics material.

And on the back of this thread I've had a word with my nan and booked an hour long weekly slot for the next 12 weeks at her old folks home where i'm gonna treat their ears to the delight and joy of The Man, just to see exactly what will happen.

I was playing some FB tunes on the guitar for my folks and they both mentioned that "Dog Gone" was one of their favorites. Hmmm, there is something about that song...

My step-dad likes FB. He's always playing Man of Steel and Billy Radcliffe on the pirate station. I want to turn him on to more stuff, but I don't live there now...I'll bet my mom would like FB's stuff.

well, i didn't call her a cunt i was merely seeking attention. but i probably could if she knew i was joking. she says it herself sometimes... i think it comes from the fact that she's spanish, and the spanish for cunt, "coņor" is used pretty lightly over there. i still respect her and she knows that, so it's all cool...

cunts.

i think, over here, saying that to your mother would be about 1000 times worse

not that it's already not bad

Well thats very brave of you steve, most mothers would rip your head off, or have nervous break down and start lamenting about their sons degeneration of respect and manners.

haha, nice on Mad Lucas!

The first pixies record in this house was my dads
He gave it to me when I was so enthousiastic and bought all their other work.
He went with me to a pixies show too

My mum's beginning to come over. When I first got Doolittle she said I hate that 'I could lose ya' song! I thought that was funny.

But when I got Cult of Ray, she really loved the title track. However she questioned why the chorus said 'Go to market tomato, go to market tomto again!'. I thought that was so funny. But shes Polish with a strong accent so i can forgive her.

My mom has never been able to get past lines like "you are the son of a motherfucker" and "kiss me cock, kiss me cunt". She things Frank has a foul mouth. My dad is appreciative of good music and I've given him most of the FB solo albums as gifts (he likes them a lot). As an added treat, I took both of my parent to a McCabes show last summer. My dad really enjoyed it while my mom fell asleep...
Carl Posted - 04/28/2005 : 17:25:26
My mother always found really heavy, extreme bands hilarious. She always used to crack up seeing people at gigs on TV, moshing and slam-dancing! She has a good ear for a tune, too! :)

My mum doesn't care much about Frank Black, but she really likes Pixies. Not just the singles, but the wierd ones as well. She has a very good taste in music. She likes White Stripes as well, and PJ Harvey and stuff like that.
