Posted - 05/03/2005 : 21:13:01 ODDBALLS was released by WhatAreRecords in late summer of 2000. It was an internet exclusive through the W.A.R. site and came with a W.A.R. sampler cd of upcoming releases. This sampler included 'Bullet'.

Posted - 05/03/2005 : 19:11:54 "Man of Steel" was released after Frank left 4AD (and even after Cult of Ray was already out), but maybe "Man of Steel" was recorded when Frank was still with 4AD. Or maybe there's some issue related to the original release of "Man of Steel" (an X-Files compilation CD). I don't know.
A good question for Frank next time he holds court might be about who put out Oddballs I have the CD and there is no label mentioned anywhere on any part of it. It has no catalog number, no nothin'. I wonder if Frank put it out himself.
If Oddballs is proving difficult to find, but you still want to own copies of the songs, the original releases of most of them are pretty easy to get. If you're so inclined, the "Men in Black" singles always seem to be easy, cheap ebay finds (though I haven't looked in awhile). A Cult of Ray double CD might turn up a few times a month. The version of "Jumpin' Beans" is really the only thing exclusive to Oddballs (some of the other songs were remixed for Oddballs, but not drastically so).
One nice thing about being a fan of Frank Black's solo work is that very few of the records have become scarce, pricey collector's items. Even the vinyl has stayed pretty affordable. |

Posted - 05/03/2005 : 18:31:37 I have searched for a while now and I cannot find Oddballs new anywhere, and I refuse to pay over thirty dollars for a used album I don't know the condition of...any one know where to look for better sources?
Also, since this item seems to be in high demand, does the respective label or any other source affiliated with Frank Black have plans for a reissue? Seems it would be a smart way to spread the music around and make money. Any one?
I've heard a lot of noise, so I'm going to the stereo store, to get a white noise maker and turn it up to ten. |

Posted - 04/14/2005 : 11:19:43 maybe 4ad doesn't want it to be sold on iTunes, but I'm sure that Man of Steel was after 4ad

Posted - 04/14/2005 : 07:04:12 iTunes has Oddballs, or at least 10/14ths of it for $9.90, helluva deal, and The Man gets a few pennies from it!
I'm not sure why they don't have all 14 songs, the iTunes version is missing Oddball,At the End of The World, Hate Me, and Man of Steel. Anybody know why?
And, hey, speaking of iTunes, why am I just NOW buying the Exclusive FB&TheC's EP with Don't Clip Your Wings, A Dab'll Do You, Preacher's Daughter, and SMYT??????? I also bought Sugar Daddy while I was at it. So, now I've got 5, yes 5, new Frank Black songs. And, all for the price of some "Combo Meal" at a Fast Food Restaruant! Now that's Value!!!

"Most of these songs were released in Europe as either b-sides or bonus tracks except Jumping Beans, which was never released, and Man of Steel which was originally released on a compilation record called Songs In The Key Of X. All the recordings were done between 1994 and 1997 in Los Angeles and New York City. I got together with Dave Schiffman in Los Angeles in 1997 to review b-sides and outtakes, some to be re-mixed for this compilation, and so this is not a completist collection, just some songs that I liked. I left plenty of songs out, and some i'm even tempted to re-record, but that's another session, and so here they are, some remixed oddballs.

Posted - 04/11/2005 : 22:40:28 I'm glad I bought that action at the show. I had no idea how rare it was at the time. Too bad I didn't buy the Rich Gilbert action. I think I only had enough action for only one CD though. Action.

Posted - 04/11/2005 : 08:23:05 it's a sort of compilation of b-sides or songs appeared elsewhere ( soundtracks, etc. )....anyway they are all non-album tracks. Just use the search function and you'll find more info, or check the music section of this site for a tracklist, etc. |

Compilation, mostly b-sides, but compiled with remastering overseen by Frank. If you find a copy, it's worth the bucks for his liner notes alone. Welcome to the site, Seeker!
