July 19
Back Porch/Virgin Records

Indie cred remains intact, although distribution should be almost as good as any major.

This may change, so don't hold me to it. But it is looking fairly solid.

best,
Jon Tiven

wow... what great news... I can't wait....thanks to all for all the news and updates! please keep them coming!

It's kinda like waiting for a really cool vacation... you know it will be good, but it just seems like it take longer to get to that day because you're so flipping excited!
vilainde Posted - 03/21/2005 : 03:10:53
Official word from Back Porch:

<<We couldn't be more thrilled to welcome Frank Black, Charlie Sexton, Chip Taylor & Carrie Rodriguez, and Shannon McNally to the Back Porch Records fold.
Chip & Carrie's record, RED DOG TRACKS, will be available on May 24 and the duo will be on tour - click here for dates and locations. Shannon's new album GERONIMO is set for release on June 28, while Frank and Charlie's will be available later in the summer. Be sure to check back often for the latest news!>>

Well that's not much but at least the new label is officially confirmed.

Very well put, Twist. Very interesting comparison, the liberation of Honeycomb and that of our brothers and sisters in France. I'll ponder on this awhile, thanks.

Looking foward to Honeycomb's freedom from it's studio prison five days after Bastille day.
Daisy Girl Posted - 03/19/2005 : 10:29:32
cool!!! wow it's a long wait but I know it will be worth it! I can't wait to hear the "final" reording. It's gonna knock my socks of!!!
Carl Posted - 03/19/2005 : 10:00:46
Y'know, I reckon Honeycomb is gonna get some decent promotion in music shops, seeing as the Pixies reunion was such a success. More power to Frank, in any case.

Thanks for the news Jon.

COF, was this the news that you posted about in Jop's thread on forum borning-ness, or do we have more good fortune in store for us?

Are you honest when no one's looking? Can you summon honey from a telephone? They sat there with their hooks in the water and their mustaches caked with airplane glue.

There's more yet to come, but it's not news like this, it's more related to an event here.

I spend lotsa money in the summer and I think July is a great time to release a new record.

And not just cuz I'm moving to a new place in the middle of July and think a new Frank Black album (I am a proud member of the Haven't Yet Heard Honeycomb Club) would be great to have then. ("Frank's new beginning, MY new beginning"... *wipes away a single tear*)

No Catholics there, K. Sorry.

And when will FB+theCs tour in support of Honeycomb?

I still believe in the excellent joy of the Catholics
vilainde Posted - 03/15/2005 : 07:02:23
Good question, 10%.

About the release date... I don't want to sound negative or anything, and I'm thrilled to have a semi-official date. But isn't July a pretty bad time to release an album? On one hand, there's not much competition at that time of the year, but people spend less time buying records/reading mags/listening to cultural media during the summer. At least that's what I do. I wonder if the release date has a strong impact on sales or not.

I assume that this info relates to the USA Jon, who is releasing the album in the UK and Europe?

Jon, Great to hear from you, and such good news!

When you said "this may change...but it is looking fairly solid" were you referring to the release date or the label?

And, is this the tracklist for Honeycomb:

1. Sing for Joy
2. Honeycomb
3. I Burn Today
4. My Life Is in Storage
5. Selkie Bride
6. Dark End of the Street
7. Lone Child
8. Another Velvet Nightmare
9. Sunday Sunny Mill Valley Groove Day
10. Go Find Your Saint
11. The Shrimp Song
12. Violet
13. Atom in My Heart
14. Strange Goodbye

And, any word yet on seeing tour dates if we happen to check at Back Porch closer to the release date?
http://backporchrecords.com/bptour.htm or http://virginrecords.com/home/thisweek.aspx

And, any word yet on Nashville2, f/k/a Marathon?

Once again, Great to hear from you and thanks for delivering the Goods once again!

Lotsa great things happen BEFORE one's birthday and you have your day to look forward too, so I like things that come after so I have something else to be excited about when my birthday is over.
