Posted - 03/03/2005 : 09:06:33 So after a 6 month FB leave of absence, I finally listened to something Frank again. I spun though Dog in the Sand, and fell in love all over again. In particular, Stupid Me really struck me. I LOVE the production on this song. The sound of the lead acoustic is amazing, the piano, the bass, it's so lush and warm. And of course, the song itself is brilliant. Wow. I was just amazed that after all these years, and countless listens, I can still be blown away by Frank, all over again.

Posted - 03/04/2005 : 09:05:36 do you have the acoustic version (think I got it on iTunes) of Stupid Me? it is SO great--just like all his other acoustic solo stuff--SO personal. his inflections and the sounds of his takamine just blow me away.

Posted - 03/04/2005 : 07:43:50 Well, without refering to my grand list o' mp3s or recent purchases (I'm at work), here's a few:
The Futureheads - S/T Franz Ferdinand - S/T Bloc Party - Silen Alarm Arcade Fire - Funeral
Though I imagine you will hear strong influences of other in some (or all) of these bands. If it helps any, David Byrne and David Bowie LOVE Arcade Fire, so if they sound like the Talking Heads, Mr. Byrne seems okay with it.

Posted - 03/04/2005 : 07:09:09 Speedy m, I am curious to know which debut albums you are talking about. I am desperatly looking for valuable new artists... i mean you know... when you hear a song without thinking: Oh... some wanna be Stooges, oh... a fake Lou Reed, and especialy these days: non-Talking Heads...
By the way... Stupid me is a jewel...

So subtle you barely notice unless you play along with the album. |

Posted - 03/03/2005 : 09:18:48 I kind of went into FB and Pixies overkill with the reunion and all. I had to take a break. Plus, there's been so many great albums released by other artists recently, especially great debuts, it was just time to listen to something else. Agreed though, that's a killer album.

Posted - 03/03/2005 : 09:12:54 That's one of the many amazing things about Frank, isn't it, how the music endures and continues to offer discoveries and ever-more delight.
Killer album; the perfect song for a certain mood.
A 6-month FB absence would kill me.
