I have been listening to a lot of Foo Fighters lately and they sound so Black and Pixie-like. I mean, same song structures and energy. Anybody else agree. Songs with few lyrics, a lot of repeat chorus, Beach Boys with power chords, gosgdarn Pixie sounding stuff.

I believe we have all clearly established that the Foo Fighters do indeed sound like the Pixies. Thanks everybody for helping me substantiate this thesis.

just thought i'd add they met in the studio through gil norton, who now produces foo fighters (or did). another sign they were fans of the pixies.

Learn To Fly sounds like Oasis.

Times Like These sounds like The Cult.

While it's beyond well-known that Dave Grohl is an admirer of the Pixies, i think the Foo Fighters sound more like Boston than they do most anything Frank has been involved with. I guess it's all in the ear of the beholder, though.

As far as good mid-90s mainstream alt-rock albums go, I think that first Foo Fighters album holds up pretty well.

Frank said no? That's kind of cool. I wouldn't have
wanted him to sing on their track. Not that I
dislike them or have any say...

Perhaps they do, don't know, have not heard them. Although I heard someobody say that FF sounded like The Strokes, who kind of sound like the Pixies. Soooooooooooo...

My apologies! There was a guy who did that though, dunno his username.

I do not listen to Franz Ferdinand, so it was not me that compared them to the pixies earlier. I think the Pixies sound like Bob Welch!

What's this about contemporary rock groups shooting craps?

dave grohl was a huge pixies fan (anyone notice he's wearing a pixies shirt in the new nirvana dvd?), so there's probably some influence in there. personally, i don't hear it. i know they were both in the same studio years ago and dave tried to get frank to sing on a foo track. frank said no.

Shazeb Andleeb, aren't you the guy who once stated that Franz Ferdinand is very Pixie-like? And then everybody disagreed? Not sure it was you.

I was just about to say that...

PIXIES are the gravediggers of modern Rocks. All we have to do (and we do) is to listen to them with the pleasures of the mourning...

THEY ANNOUNCED THE COMING OF THE WORMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes indeed , the Pixies made a couple of songs with that dynamic, Foo Fighter would publish several couple of albums built on the same dynamic.
Of course they do not SOUND like Pixies. It is almost impossible to sound like Pixies. Even the Catholics cannot sound like Pixies. But Foo Losers obviously tried to sound like them. For the album 'the color and the shape' you all know that Dave Grrool even said he wanted Gil Norton in order to sound like Trompe le Monde (which was not at all the case... pale and nervous imitation).

One more example of guys who want to be cool... bla bla bla.

Give me some Pere Ubu, bloody Hell!!!!!!!!!!!!

they play poppy grunge I guess
pixies had a couple of songs that could be filed under
that description
but not that many
I wouldn't say the foo fighters sound very pixies-like

no similarity other than they both play music
hWolsky Posted - 03/02/2005 : 01:06:47
The answer is a question to the question.

Sorry, can't see that either SHAZEB ANDLEEB...maybe it's because they came from Nirvana, I don't know, I just don't listen to them!

I agree this is uncool pixies-like music just as there are a lot of uncool Pixies fans...
Some think that having a 'don't give a fuck' attitude is cool just like Frank, but I have to tell you that actually Frank ain't no cool at all. He is natural, it does not mean he is cool. That's why lot of musician inspired by Pixies are just future craps from the past. That's why a lot of contemporary rock groups are craps. They don't behave like they are supposed to behave, they are influenced, they are weak... WHEN A WAY IS BEING SHOWN, ONE HAS NOT TO FOLLOW IT, ONE HAS TO THINK OF IT AND TRY TO BUILD A BETTER ONE...The Pixies influence over contemporary rock is obvious but it is so unique that when you try to imitate it, it sounds nothing but crap! like Nirvana... Radiohead, Placebo craps... Crap, Crap.
No the Pixies, just like every miracles are DANGEROUS, like a weapon, like fantastic and 'too true to be spread' ideas (I think of Nietsche... all the time), like beauty...

STOP LISTENNING TO THE PIXIES NOW, before it's too late (Anyway it's too late for most of us)

Burn The BOOKS!!!
(This is a song, nothing but a song)
