ps - rumour has it that there's even a signed "get well soon" copy of the purple tapes sitting on my desk at work waiting for me. I LOVE IT!

Aw man there's a whole nice thread about me! THANKS GUYS! You have no idea how much I appreciate everyone who's bid on an auction or donated money or sent well-wishes - the response has been overwhelming, and it's been an unbelievable help for me. And you're right, I have incredibly wonderful friends and co-workers.

That said I've been out of the hospital since Feb. 1st and am doing really well. There's a darn good chance that I will fully recover and live a long, normal life in remission, and that's what I plan on doing!

I'll post again when they go up, but I'm pretty sure there are some more Frank Black/Pixies goodies getting ready to be auctioned off. That man is one of the kindest people on the planet, as if you didnt already know.

Thanks again!!

Woah... Sarah, great to hear that you are getting better... all the best, Stuart.

This is a high class bureau de change, not some Punch & Judy show on the seafront at Margate!

so, the item I was bidding on
is back on track!
good news for sarah (and me of course)!

How wonderful about Sarah's recovery!! That's the best news I've heard all day!

I just looked back at the auctions. There are some new items on there too to check out.

You know what OldMan and Darwin... If I was FB I would just sit around a room and autograph stuff for myself because it would be so cool. Just kidding . After awhile it would get old, but at first it would be really cool. (kinda kidding).

Locks of hair?

Ha!
OldManInaCoffeeCan Posted - 01/28/2005 : 14:32:09
Hey, Darwin, (hold on, let me get my tongue out of my cheek)I hope my reply to your post didn't come across as being a smart-ass. Not my intent. Intended to interject a "little" humor. (you gotta admit my opening line that The Man didn't need to buy a guitar signed by Frank Black on E-Bay, he could just sign one that he already owned, was pretty humorous, huh?
And, I especially enjoyed the idea of Frank auctioning off one of his Flanel shirts with the sleeves cut off, or now that I've given it more thought, perhaps his pajamas, from the Orange Album.)

Anyway, I hope that you were not offended, and I'm fairly certain that you weren't.
darwin Posted - 01/28/2005 : 12:45:46
I wasn't saying he was trying to buy it. I was saying MAYBE he was trying to pump the price up, and I don't really even believe that's the case (if he were he probably wouldn't have used an obvious name). Never mind.

Nah, come on, if The Man wanted a Frank Black signed guitar, then all he would have to do is sign one of the guitars that he already owns, he wouldn't have to go on E-bay to buy one.

And, if he wanted to contribute to Sarah's cause, then he would send a cash donation, or provide some signed stuff, e.g., CD's, guitars, Cadillacs, locks of hair, or maybe one of his flanel shirts with the sleeves cut off from the Orange Album days, for auction so that other people could buy those items and the proceeds go to Sarah. If he buys the same items that he contributes, he deprives another bidder (a new contributor, if you will, or money from an otherwise unparticipating source) from participating.

The Man is much smarter than that!

OK, here's the scoop:

a) Sarah's doing well and may even be released from the hospital as early as next week. Hopefully she continues to get healthier. Thanks to some of the articles you guys found, it looks like that might be likely.

b) As for the auctions being cancelled:

quote:
... some of us [SpinART employees] had bid on some items (because we wanted them and wanted to help out), but they tracked those bids to the same location from which the auctions were listed. i guess it's somewhat common for people to list things, then use another account to bid and jack up the price. unfortunately ebay thought we were engaged in that activity and cancelled all of our auctions.

The cancelled items will be relisted so you'll have a second crack at them. I'm going to win this time...

All of the remaining items were cancelled.

I was bidding on a couple things that got cancelled. I had already won one auction. I hope that still goes through.

But more importantly I hope nothing bad has happened. Though I suspect we would have heard if it had.

Get well Sarah!

for some odd reason is the auction I was bidding on cancelled!
that's weird, very weird:

the Site because it violated eBay policy.''

Thanks Dean. I just noticed a Pay Pal link on the upper right hand corner of the web page set up by Spin Art. Worked like a charm!

Not sure if this link was new b/c I don't remember it from last night.

I did this and I am going to keep chekcing out this both the ebay and web page SpinArt has set up.

Maybe as a pay it forward type of late Baby shower gift for Frank, we can all give a little something to Sarah.

Wow I just reread Dean's post. I didn't know she was a member here! How very, sad. I hope you feel better very soon!!! Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery! You are in my thoughts!

Well wishes to Sarah and her family, for strength and a speedy recovery with no relapses.

I hope the medical community can understand this disease and find a true cure for it quickly. I hadn't heard of this immune disorder before, but found some information here:

there is some great stuff on there, but does anyone know if there is an address where we can send a check to help out. I'll admit that i am a bit of a Luddite, and don't completely trust Internet Money transactions.

I read a report on the Wegener's Disease, and there it said "over 75% of treated patients are alive at least 8 years later. Many of these patients have not experienced relapses and have been able to lead relatively normal lives." So the odd are with her.

Get well Sarah, you're in our prayers.

You and me were thinking the same thing. I have already "hinted" to my husband a few items that would be perfect for Valentines Day.
Daisy Girl Posted - 01/26/2005 : 22:03:23
I hope Sarah recovery continues to progress. How very sad, but how wonderful she must feel by knowing all the great friends she has.

Wow what a great selection of Items and what great timing-- close to Valentine's day!!! Hopefully some of those items will catch my husband's eye and it will make shopping a little easier.
mosleyk Posted - 01/26/2005 : 14:32:15
Wonderful. Thank so much for the information!
Cult_Of_Frank Posted - 01/26/2005 : 14:09:57
Actually, good question... I'll look into that. Though losing a bid at least helps more money be raised.

Yes, you can donate directly through Paypal here:
http://feverdog.spinartrecords.com/

There's also a benefit concert apparently, worth checking out.

Oh yes...Medicare, Medicaide. In Oregon we also have CareAssist, and dying program called the Oregon Health Plan for low income people and families. I didn't mean to leave those out. I was being too general.

Back on the topic. Is there a place where we can just donate money? That way even if we lose a bid we can still help out.
darwin Posted - 01/26/2005 : 13:05:10
Not totally true. Medicare in some circumstances does pay medical costs. But, yes medical care in the US is expensive (either paying the costs or paying for insurance).
billgoodman Posted - 01/26/2005 : 13:03:48
hey I just bid on one of those 'dutch' auctions
I couldn't resist being from holland
and it's a great item
and above all, I want sarah to make it

mosleyk Posted - 01/26/2005 : 12:35:12
Yep. We have to pay for all health care in the US...that is unless you have insurance.

Sorry, didn't even think of the implications... just Canadian speak. I'll take it out (didn't mean to rag on you guys).

Oh dear, I had no idea Sarah was ill. I'll put this up as news. I strongly encourage anyone interested to help Sarah out all the while procuring some cool signed stuff.

Sarah "Sarah Spinart" Flynn has long been a source of knowledge from the heart of Spinart and a member of our forum. Not to mention a great gal. She has apparently been stricken with Wegener's Disease, and is fighting to recover from radical treatment. Get well, Sarah! We all have missed you around here.
